An inept action picture photographed in Italy that borrows heavily from the infinitely superior "Mad Max" series. The location is Texas in the year 2020. The post-nuclear-holocaust world is a dusty wasteland overrun by nasty, well-armed motorcyclists and their sadomasochistic, scantily

clad women. The film opens with a depraved scene in which a grimy, drunken bunch of outlaws pillage a mission, rape the nuns (who then slit their throats with pieces of glass), and crucify a priest. The heroes are a wandering group of mercenaries called "rangers" who fight for honor and morality,

following the noble lead of Cliver. After an orgy of blood blisters and bone snapping, the rangers break up the outlaws' sacrilege and save a frightened young woman, Siani, from degradation and death. She tells Cliver of a place far, far away, where people live in peace. The movie jumps ahead a

number of years (how many is anybody's guess). Cliver, now married to Siani and with a child, is a worker at a refinery that is heavily fortified against outlaw attacks. When a demented Nazi called the Black One (played with unrestrained absurdity by O'Brien) descends on the refinery with his

horde of futuristic fighters, the workers are easily defeated. To win the workers' support, O'Brien uses familiar Nazi tactics and propagandistic speeches, shouting about his superrace and the New Order. Cliver, however, doesn't buy O'Brien's claptrap. After being forced to watch the rape of his

wife, Cliver tries to attack O'Brien but is mercilessly machine-gunned to death. The film takes another jump in time to O'Brien's reign of terror and his enslaving of the workers in a mine where they are subjected to hard labor. The plot becomes more and more ridiculous as it bounces around

incomprehensibly from place to place and time to time. It wraps up after a few more rounds of gratuitous violence, and, of course, good finally triumphs over evil. One can go on and on pointing out the innumerable problems of the film or that the director must be morally spent, but the fact will

remain that 2020 TEXAS GLADIATORS is nothing but more egesta from the Italian exploitation factory.
