Reed Kelly, a self-proclaimed Survivor superfan, finally saw a longtime dream come true this year when he was cast on the show — and dashed in Wednesday's episode, during which he was eliminated. But he says San Juan del Sur has been a frustrating season in which to participate. "It's interesting," Kelly told TVGuide.com. "I knew going in that every season is different and every season has its own rules that you play by, created by the players. But, going through it, because it was a blood vs. water season, I think you had people in the game that aren't necessarily students of the game, I should say. So it did make things a little more complicated. It actually made for a lot more wild cards, because people didn't respond in the typical ways that somebody who watches the show would. So it made things a little more unpredictable."

Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water fans who tuned in Wednesday night got a crash course in how not to play the game from Drew Christy, who alienated his tribe members, threw a challenge, and made a misguided attempt to bargain with Jeff Probst over the course of the hour — before finally getting his torch snuffed at the evening's Tribal Council. The irony that Drew got voted out at a Tribal Council that his tribe attended only because he intentionally lost the immunity challenge for them is not lost on the first-time Survivor player.

Jeff Probst Teases "Unorthodox" Survivor: San Juan del Sur – Blood vs. Water

For its 29th season (Wednesday, 8/7c, CBS), Survivor is reviving its Blood vs. Water theme — in which loved ones compete against each other. This time, however, all the players are new to Survivor, as opposed to in Season 27, when "Blood vs. Water" made its debut. "Blood vs. water had such a positive response from the audience that we fell in love with the idea and decided, let's just do it again and let's twist it and not bring any returning players back, and see what that does to the dynamic," host Jeff Probst tells TVGuide.com. "And it definitely shifted it. People came in out of the gate saying, let's let loved ones dominate this game and try to get as deep as we can with as many pairs. So right from the beginning there was a new strategy."
