Vlad, Erin and Jonno are determined to make the ceasefire between vampires and slayers work, but they face opposition from all sides: the Vampire High Council, the Slayers' Guild, and even the Count and Ingrid would rather go back to their old ways. To make matters worse, Malik and his gang of street vampires have arrived in town, intent on breaking the rules.

With only 48 hours before the Slayers' Guild deadline, Vlad and Bertand round up the street fangs and bring them into the school where they set up the Revamp training program to teach coexistence. Hoping to gain a place on the Vampire High Council, Ingrid helps the Count and Ramanga in their plots to put an end to the ceasefire, while Mina will stop at nothing to convince Jonno that peace is impossible.

Vlad must find a way to get out of his engagement before the Blood Tea Ceremony, but his attempts to make her look bad have no effect on his father and Ramanga. When her father persuades her to stick with the engagement until she gains the Chosen One's powers, Adze decides to use Erin and Ryan to get her revenge on Vlad. Meanwhile, blood supplies are running low and it becomes harder to maintain the peace treaty.

Miss McCauley wants one of the Revamp kids to join the school senate, so Vlad arranges a quiz to choose the candidate, but Malik and the mysterious shape-shifter have plans of their own. Ramanga tells Ingrid that she must complete three tasks to be in with a chance of joining the High Council, the first of which is to disrupt Vlad's plans to escape his engagement.

Bertrand investigates Ryan's murder, but quickly discovers that almost everyone had both motive and opportunity. With help from the Slayers' heat sensors in the school, he begins to suspect a shape-shifter is involved, but the evidence goes missing before he can tell Vlad. Ingrid plots to get rid of Erin once and for all by revealing to the hungry vampires that Erin is a breather.

Ramanga and Adze plan to use an ancient, forbidden weapon to kill Vlad after the Blood Binding ceremony. Ramanga sets Ingrid the task of obtaining a tear from a member of her family, needed to activate the dark magic. Although Bertrand suspects the truth, Vlad will not trust him without evidence. When Malik shows an interest in her, Ingrid risks her chance to join the High Council by turning down Ramanga's proposal.

In order to impress the Count, Malik offers to help with his revenge and uses Adze to track down Ramanga. Erin is hovering between life and death and can only be saved by becoming a vampire, so Vlad must decide whether to bite her and risk her hating him forever. After defeating Ramanga, Malik claims that he is the Count's eldest son, but will the Count accept him?

As Vlad struggles to overcome his blood thirst, the Count is disappointed in him and declares a duel to the death between Vlad and Malik to decide who will be heir to the Dracula throne. Malik receives help to defeat Vlad's secret weapon - the ancient art of zoning. Meanwhile, Bertrand becomes more convinced that Malik is hiding a dark secret.

Trapped in the attic with the sun coming in, the Count tells Malik and Ingrid how his brother died and confesses that he abandoned Malik's mother. Elizabeta tricks Mina and Adze into meeting, which proves fatal for Adze. Bertrand finally finds proof about the shape-shifter, but cannot persuade Vlad to listen.

Mina is preparing the slayers for war, and Jonno can only persuade her to call it off if Vlad will slay Erin. Determined to make peace work at any price, and fearing the life that Erin will lead as a vampire, Vlad agrees to Jonno's plan. While Ingrid makes plans to defend against the slayer attack, the Count is more concerned about the new science teacher's interest in Miss McCauley.

George Lansley, new member of the Vampire High Council, claims to support the peace treaty, but Ingrid discovers that he has bought his way onto the Council using blood harvested from a breather farm. The Count and Malik plot to get rid of Bertolini by arranging an accident for him. When Ingrid learns that Vlad has mind-wiped the slayers, she sees an opportunity to use the knowledge against him.

Vlad finally discovers that Bertrand had been right about Elizabeta. Renfield brews a potion to stop the shape-shifter, but they soon find that it's not so easy to track her down. Erin turns to Malik to help her defeat Vlad, and when the Count learns that Vlad has reversed the slayers' mind-wipes, he decides to crown Malik as his heir.

As the poison takes hold, the Count starts hallucinating, seeing visions of his brother. It's a race against time for Renfield as he tries to brew an antidote to the poison. Elizabeta, Malik and Erin try to destroy Vlad and Ingrid but, realizing that he can't beat a shape-shifter, Vlad takes them through the Blood Mirror to the dream world where he is in control.
