In the aftermath of Germany's devastating offensive against the Allies, their army prepares to capture the entire British army trapped at the port at Dunkirk. However, at the pivotal moment Hitler delays making the final killer blow allowing Prime Minister Churchill and his commanders to devise a daring strategy to bring back the entire British army. As the German army creeps closer and the Luftwaffe strike from overhead Churchill faces a battle back home to convince the politicians, and the public that the war is not over yet. Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of British troops on the beaches of Dunkirk are struggling to survive. They work together to devise ingenious methods for getting the troops off the deadly beaches. Even enlisting British civilian 'little ships' to help in the evacuation, will they get off in time?

The Battle of the Atlantic

In September 1939 a German U-boat fires its first torpedo setting in motion the longest continuous battle of the war. German Admiral Doenitz is innovating U-boat technology and tactics and now has the opportunity to enact his vision: control and cut off allied supply lines from below in a brutal war of attrition. A cat and mouse game of epic proportions ensues as German U-boats and allied forces engage in a 5-year battle for supremacy in the Atlantic. The U-boats hunting for merchant vessels are able to inflict huge losses and Churchill himself speaks of how the U-boat peril brought fear to his heart. However as combating this new hidden enemy becomes a top allied priority, new tactics and technologies allow them to turn the tides and with the cracking of the infamous German 'enigma' naval codes the hunter soon becomes the hunted.

The Invasion of North Africa

In late 1942, America enters the war in North Africa, where the British have been battling the Germans and Italians for control of the Suez Canal.

The Battle of Kursk

Desperate for a victory in the East, Germany attacks toward Kursk in the summer of 1943 and triggers a monumental tank battle with the Soviet Union.

The Invasion of Italy

Hoping for a swift victory, Allied armies invade Italy in September 1943, but the fighting quickly grinds down to a bloody, months long campaign.
