Episode 21

All Hell Is Breaking Loose!

56 mins

Opener was a worthless "enhancement" match that saw Ahmed get way too much offence on Banks; yes, he's bigger in stature - but Banks is the pushed star that was a finalist in last years tournament to see who would face the current champion, he shouldn't be selling this much against a debuting talent that is clearly not a big deal [*]. Aichner and Barthel work well together and already have a double-team finisher. This was mostly about establishing them as a team more than anything else. Solid and enjoyable [**3/4]. The women's match was a fun little outing but did little for either lady. Jinny's mean, Candy's not; we knew that going in. Still, enjoyable [**]. The main event was really good. Foot down, right out of the gate until Gallus stopped Seven long enough to work up some heat on him and then the hot tag exploded the venue and Bate went to work being Tyler Bate and b i g s t r o n g b o i ing it up all over the place. Joe Coffey's arrival spoiled things a little given that had he done what he looked like he was intending to do, he'd have cost his stablemates the match, but it opened the door to Dunne's arrival and the furthering of that feud so it is what it is [***1/4]. All in all, an enjoyable show with solid action and forward momentum towards the upcoming TakeOver special.

A Sign of Things to Come?

47 mins

This is really a show about the opening match and the final segment. Everything in the middle did what it needed to but if you're already familiar with Wildboar and you either don't care or can see where they're going with the Dennis/Mastiff feud, then you really don't need to see either of those matches. I do want to mention however that the addition of Sid Scala as Johnny Saint's assistant is, for me, a raging success. Saint isn't great at cutting these long and winding WWE style promo's and is better utilised as the British legend that the locker room falls in step behind, as such brevity is his friend. Meanwhile, Scala is very good on the mic and seems to be growing into his new role well. They have a very good dynamic. The opener was a banger of a match, that (with a little more time) could be considered great. As it was it's simply really bloody good and while I understand why you'd want to end the show with the Dunne/Coffey contract signing, this really should've been the "main event" over that [***1/2]. Hitchman/Morrell was a solid enhancement match putting over Wildboar [**] and Dennis/Mastiff was more of an angle than a match [**]. The contract signing really got me hyped for TakeOver: Blackpool. Maybe it's because I'll be there in person but since they annouced that event on this show it's felt like NXT:UK has really found its footing and has something to aim for and Coffey (in particular) is rising to the challenge of being Dunne's first real feud on the brand. Dunne, of course, is always excellent and knows exactly who he is. It's a contract signing so, y'know, a table dies - but it's all for a good cause. Good episode.

In Mod We Trust

60 mins

Amir and Kenny finally get their first win, not just as a tag team but each of their first wins overall in NXT UK. It was a decent enhancement match with a good finishing sequence. Isla vs. Xia was very much a technical match which saw Isla come out on top, and for the most part it was smooth. Devlin vs. Weir was only an enhancement match and served to help set up Devlin vs. Banks at TakeOver. The main event was pretty good for going under 10 minutes, and the right team won so that we'll have a clear face vs. heel tag team title match at TakeOver (***1/4). Overall it was an average episode of NXT UK. Tag Team Match Amir Jordan and Kenny Williams vs Dan Moloney and Jamie Ahmed (3:59) Singles Match Isla Dawn vs Xia Brookside (5:08) Singles Match Jordan Devlin vs Damien Weir (4:49) WWE NXT UK Tag Team Title Qualifying Match James Drake and Zack Gibson vs Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews (9:19)

Countdown to WWE NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool

57 mins

Ligero vs. Conners was good for the short amount of time it was given. I expected it to go longer after being built up for a few episodes, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Banks vs. Tyson was just to set up Banks vs. Devlin at TakeOver, but there's not much to speak of with the match itself. The main event was a great, 25+ minute war that really helped build up to Joe Coffey vs. Pete Dunne at TakeOver Singles Match Ligero vs Joseph Conners (5:21) Singles Match Travis Banks vs Tyson T-Bone (w/Saxon Huxley) (2:08) Six Man Tag Team Match Gallus (Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) vs British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) (25:28)

42 mins

The first two matches aren't much to talk about, especially the women's match, but neither were bad. The main event was a great showing from all four guys with the heels coming out on top and remaining undefeated as a tag team. I can only imagine the kind of match they could have been able to have with more time, since this match only went slightly less than 10 minutes (***1/2). Singles Match Ligero vs Saxon Huxley (5:23) Singles Match Jinny vs Isla Dawn (6:42) [Recommended, CAGEMATCH inmates: 6.58] Tag Team Match Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel vs Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews (9:38)

WWE NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool Aftermath

51 mins

This episode did well to further Nina Samuels as a contender in the women's division, re-establish Eddie Dennis as a force to be reckoned with, continue the Devlin vs. Banks storyline, and continue building up to the eventual Pete Dunne vs. WALTER title match. I liked the decision to have the main event end in a decisive draw rather than have only one person be counted out or have the match end in a No Contest, and the match itself was solid (***). Dark Match Luke Menzies vs Flash Morgan Webster Singles Match Nina Samuels vs Lana Austin (4:10) Dark Tag Team Match Amir Jordan and Kenny Williams vs Saxon Huxley and Tyson T-Bone Singles Match Eddie Dennis vs Jamie Ahmed (4:40) Singles Match Jordan Devlin vs. Travis Banks - Double Count Out (13:23)

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

The first three matches were just enhancement matches. WALTER is going to be a major force in NXT UK, his presence is just great. The main event was a really good tag team match that I thought the heels should have won, but I guess they wanted to get some momentum back in the favor of Moustache Mountain (***3/4). Singles Match Dave Mastiff vs Jay Melrose (5:01) Singles Match WALTER vs Jack Starz (2:30) Singles Match Jinny vs Kasey Owens (5:11) [Recommended, CAGEMATCH inmates: 6.50] Tag Team Match Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) vs Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel (13:08)

Bad Intentions

59 mins

It was a pretty good show this week. There were no bad matches or segments. Ligero and Mandrews opened with a really good and fast-paced match, Xia got put over pretty well, Conners looked strong in a win, Joe Coffey vs. Ashton was a more competitive match than I thought it would be, and WALTER looked like an absolute superstar once again. Singles Match Ligero vs Mark Andrews (9:03) Singles Match Xia Brookside vs Candy Floss (4:30) Singles Match Joseph Conners vs Mike Hitchman (5:28) Singles Match Joe Coffey vs Ashton Smith (6:16) Singles Match WALTER vs Mark Coffey (6:32)

58 mins

NXT UK produced another solid show this week. The opening match was good, although it had a pretty predictable outcome. Seven vs. Thorne was a longer and more competitive match than I thought it would be. The main event was the second Storm vs. Ripley match in a row that I thought was not as good as it could/should have been. It was still good, but just didn't seem too special. Tag Team Match The Coffey Brothers (Joe Coffey and Mark Coffey) vs Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews Info: This match was taped on 27.01.2019. Technical Master Class

Wed, Feb 27, 201949 mins

This episode was average, not all that good but not bad either. Bate vs. Gallagher was a 100% technical match that included nothing except chain wrestling and submissions. If you're a fan of that type of match, you probably loved this match. WALTER vs. Ohno was a pretty good hoss fight. The main event was okay, but not great. Singles Match Tyler Bate vs Gentleman Jack Gallagher Singles Match WALTER vs Kassius Ohno WWE NXT UK Tag Team Title Match James Drake and Zack Gibson (c) vs Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan.

Episode 32

Falls Count Anywhere

59 mins

The main event was definitely the highlight of this episode. It was a really good long match that served to effectively end the Devlin-Banks feud (***1/2). The opening match was also pretty good, and while the two mid-card matches weren't bad, they're also not much to talk about and mainly served to help establish the winners. Singles Match Ligero vs Joseph Conners Tag Team Match Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel vs Lewis Howley and Sam Stoker Singles Match Nina Samuels vs Charlie Morgan Falls Count Anywhere Match Jordan Devlin vs Travis Banks.

The three undercard matches were all okay, but nothing special. The main event was really good, bordering on great, and really helped set up the upcoming Dunne vs. WALTER title match at TakeOver. WALTER's very presence just reeks of an absolute superstar, and he's exceptional at everything he does in the ring. Post-match, he told a whole story just by looking at Dunne. Singles Match Wolfgang vs Flash Morgan Webster Tag Team Match Amir Jordan and Kenny Williams vsSaxon Huxley and Tyson T-Bone Singles Match Kay Lee Ray vs Candy Floss Tag Team Match Pete Dunne and WALTER vs Gallus (Joe Coffey and Mark Coffey)

Returning from Exile

Wed, Mar 20, 201955 mins

"I thought this was a pretty good show. Although I still don't get the Eddie Dennis hype, him vs. Ligero was a solid opener. The Hunt's debut as a tag team was good, and those two are a natural combination for a tag team; they definitely need a new finisher though. Ohno's debut as a full-time member of the UK roster was a solid match. The main event was a really good - borderline great - match, and Drake got to show more than he ever has before in any of his singles matches (***3/4). Dark Match Isla Dawn vs Killer Kelly Singles Match Eddie Dennis vs Ligero Info: This match was taped on 22.02.2019. Tag Team Match The Hunt (Primate and Wild Boar) vs Lewis Howley and Sam Stoker Info: This match was taped on 22.02.2019. This was a pretty good episode. The first two matches, although mainly purposed just to further establish the victors, were both better than undercard matches on this show usually are, especially the woman's match. Andrews vs. Dar was on its way to being really good until Dar's unfortunate injury caused it to be stopped. The contract signing was done well, including having WALTER speak for the first time. Normally a bad TV Show, but it's good at NXT UK standarts I guess - Ohno vs Banks was ok, I don't think it's matchguide worthy. Rubik's Cube that used by Ohno was insane, but match didn't have any high points besides that. I hope he will keep using this move regularly though - [***] Next 2 matches didn't have any interesting aspects. Maint event for UK Women's Championship was bad. At least this is what I thought. Jinny was uninteresting as hell. She needs to come up with a different gimmick, or needs to improve her character work. Her heel work and acting during the match was very cringy. Match itself was not good either Dark Match Ilja Dragunov vs Ashton Smith [Recommended, CAGEMATCH inmates: 6.78] Singles Match Travis Banks vs Kassius Ohno Singles Match Piper Niven vs Killer Kelly Singles Match Joseph Conners vs Jack Starz WWE NXT UK Women's Title Match Toni Storm (c) vs Jinny.

Great Show . The opening tag was really OK, Moustache Mountain is, as usual, a good freaking team and they are great to sell us new teams, just an example of their opponents, the Hunt, which are talented. The singles match was also fine, a big POP for Gallus as expected. The M. E NXT Tag Titles was AWESOME, this RULED. I'm so a fan of GYV, great hatable team but on the other hab-nd so talented and great pairing. Their opponents of the day was a new pairing, but incredible over, as they are both Scottish, and I can clearly see another bout of these 4 any time Tag Team Match Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) vs The Hunt (Primate and Wild Boar) WWE United Kingdom Title #1 Contendership Qualifying Match Joe Coffey vs Flash Morgan Webster Singles Match Nina Samuels vs Kasey Owens WWE NXT UK Tag Team Title Match Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson) (c) vs Kenny Williams and Noam Dar.

X Factor

"The matches here are largely skippable, I think everyone will be disappointed in how the main event turned out. A promo between Storm and Ray as well setting up their match for TakeOver, average at best. Not a lot of energy in any of the matches, I think this week is the last of the Download Festival tapings, hopefully next week benefits from a change of scenery.

Hopes of Retribution

53 mins

A good all round show here, some spotlight for the women and a very good main event. Dar v Williams a good match, the 6 women tag Aldo good but I really do highly recommend watching the main event id give that a 9/10 (oops a rating, oh so naughty how dare I) and for the show overall an above average 7.

Stomping Out the Competition

47 mins

Pretty good show, started strong with the TakeOver announcement and the Imperium interruption, lulled a bit with the Gallus and Ripley stuff but made them look good and strong so no complaints. Then a really cool promo package for Storm v Ray, I hope it's the hype package they use on the night for TakeOver. Then an alright main event between Devlin and Wolfe.

The Young and the Powerful

58 mins

Pretty good this, Dragunov v Ohno told a good story and although with the other three matches none of them were particularly long there was nothing wrong with them either. Noam Dar on commentary was pretty funny and Walter's segment from Germany was done really really well. Pretty hyped also for Coffey-Mastiff and Ripley-Niven.

Countdown to WWE NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff

52 mins

"Good night of wrestling and a good build to TakeOver, the highlight being Devlin v Williams was a really good match and a good show closing brawl by the tag division. Probably disappointing to not see much of Storm or Walter on the go home show, but there was nothing wrong with what we got.

WWE NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff Extra

Recap show from Cardiff, these shows always suck a little bit and no exception here. Of what minimal in ring action there was Niven v Ripley never got going and although it was good to see Scala in action pretty predictable main event result."

British Rounds

57 mins

Thought this was overall acceptable, the main event brings this up from a 3-4 for me. I hope they do the British Rounds match again just not too frequently. And yes I'm aware it's a WOS idea but it was still a good main event. Ripley, Conners and Banks were all alright without being great.

Settling Differences

46 mins

First two matches were decent but nothing you can't miss. I was afraid Noam Dar's presence in the main event would be too much suck for Trent Seven to overcome, but I dared to watch anyway. Other than a couple nice lariats, I should've stared at the wall for 10 minutes instead, especially with that finish. Is Trent's towel the new Moppy? Even Walter's bully session at the Performance Center was mediocre, uncharacteristically. The only thing I found real stokage for was the seeds of a Devlin v Bate feud being planted.
