Walk the Line

Annie joins DI Harry Sawyer to investigate the robbery at the Morris house. Nothing was stolen but Morris was violently killed and, having seen the argument at the beauty show, Sawyer brings in William Shepherd. He is wild and raving and taken to a psychiatric hospital - from where he escapes. Annie's father Douglas is unhappy when David Meyer turns up at his house wanting a story about William. Fenton and Tommy arrest Pru, the daughter of a night watchman who has been drugging her father whilst her boyfriend Marty steals from his yard but Tommy, unlike Fenton refuses to take back-handers from the public. Mrs Briggs asks secretary Susie for tips on how to attract her husband whilst Briggs himself warns Coulson against any further indiscretions.

Episode 3

From the Shadows

Annie and Sawyer visit the psychiatric hospital where Annie finds hard to believe the official version from Dr Ellis that Shepherd attacked a staff member before escaping. She does find out from her father that Shepherd and Morris had a disagreement possibly linked to an incident when they served together in the war. Sawyer returns to the hospital and learns that the real attacker was David Meyer, who manages to escape from him though it is discovered that he is not a reporter. Meanwhile Coulson, anxious to thwart Briggs, discovers that he has a secret gay lover Carl Saunders and gets Fenton to arrest them both for having an illegal relationship.

The Wayward Wind

Coulson uses Briggs's misfortune to reassert his power at the station. DI Sawyer questions a suspect with a chilling wartime story to tell. Tommy struggles to be professional when Gloria is accused of a crime and Shenton makes a shocking discovery at a boarding house.

Requiem

Briggs' suicide sends shock waves through the station and, in defiance of Coulson, everybody except Fenton attends the funeral though Carl's presence is upsetting to Mrs Briggs. David convinces Harry Sawyer and Annie that Ellis and head nurse Hartley are in fact former Nazis who experimented on concentration camp victims and they were given new identities by Morris though when they get to the hospital the pair have fled, Helped by Douglas the police track them down and, despite her father's misgivings, Annie is declared the hero of the hour.
