Episode 1

The Bone War

In 1877, railroad foreman William Harlow Reed is hunting game to feed his work crew, when he stumbles upon a strange fossil. In short order, his discovery attracts the attention of two scientists who race to the windblown bluffs of Wyoming in search of more dinosaur bones. In what would soon be referred to as the Great Dinosaur Rush, paleontologists E. D. Cope and O. C. Marsh stop at nothing to lay claim to new dinosaur skeletons, and the bitter feud spirals out of control. Reed is caught in the crossfire as the two paleontologists arm their camps and resort to bribery, theft, and even the destruction of bones. Some years later, gunfighter-turned-reporter Bat Masterson tracks down Reed to uncover the real story of the Bone War, which led to unprecedented scientific discoveries in the West as well as the destruction of careers and reputations.

The Texas Fence-Cutting War

Although he sympathizes with the local stockmen and farmers who rely on the open range, Aten develops an explosive plan of action to defend the rights of Day and other private landowners. If he can somehow frighten the fence cutters, he just might be able to force them into some sort of compromise. Some years later, legendary gunfighter-turned-newspaperman Bat Masterson interviews Mabel to get the real story of the Texas Fence-Cutting War.

The Legend of Nat Love

While in town, he hears word that a local business owner is sponsoring a Fourth of July centennial celebration featuring a cowboy competition. Confident in his shooting skills and horsemanship, Nat enters the contest in hopes of winning the $200 prize and earning the title of 'Deadwood Dick.' Despite the skepticism of the other contestants, he is eager to test his mettle against the best cowboys around, and his performance cements his place as a legend of the Old West. Some years later, gunslinger-turned-reporter Bat Masterson tracks down one of Nat's opponents, 'Stormy Jim' Waterson, to get the real story behind the competition that brought fame to Nat Love.

Pinkerton Detectives Track a Killer

Together, they are a turn-of-the-century odd couple. As George meticulously combs the crime scene for clues, Charles rushes to hunt down the unknown suspect. When they attempt to arrest the Missouri Kid for the robbery, Charles is killed in a gunbattle, and George is left to finish the job and avenge his partner's death. Some years later, gunfighter-turned-reporter Bat Masterson meets up with George, who is now the NYPD Deputy Commissioner, to find out how the Missouri Kid was finally brought to justice.

Episode 5

The Masterson Brothers Part 1

With a deadline looming, reporter Bat Masterson and his young copy boy, Edgar, frantically search the office for a misplaced story. When Edgar's wife, Ellie, arrives to help, she stumbles upon an old photograph of Bat and his two brothers, Ed and James. The photo takes Bat back in time to 1878, when Ed is marshal of Dodge City, and Bat is sheriff. When a fight breaks out at a local saloon, Ed is shot in the shoulder and narrowly escapes with his life. In response, Ed hastily bans all firearms within town limits. Most townspeople, including Bat, are opposed to the heavy-handed order, and Ed becomes a target for the town's troublemakers. At the time, Dodge City is known as the 'Wickedest town in the West,' and it is only a matter of time before someone challenges the new ordinance. When gunfire finally erupts, Ed stands his ground and Bat races to his side. As Bat relates the tragic story to Edgar and Ellie, he reveals a surprising twist that never made it into the newspapers of the day.

The Masterson Brothers Part 2

Dodge City's newly elected mayor forces James out of office, and his former business partners are conspiring to kill him. When Bat receives word of James' situation, he races back to Dodge City to protect his last living brother. Within moments of Bat's arrival, a gunbattle breaks out on the dusty streets of Dodge City.

Doc Susie Goes Underground

When a worker is injured during the construction of the Newhouse Tunnel in Colorado, he is taken to the office of Dr. Susan Anderson. There is little Doc Susie can do to help the dying worker, and she is skeptical of the lead engineer's explanation that the man had been drinking on the job. When the worker's wife confirms that he wasn't a drinker, Doc Susie goes on a covert mission to find out what really happened. Deep underground, she begins to suspect that the engineer has been ignoring safety precautions, and she soon finds her own life in peril when the tunnel collapses, leaving her helpless and trapped in the dark with the engineer. Although the engineer promises to put the workers' safety first if they escape, Doc Susie determines to do everything in her power to prevent more needless deaths, including seeking the help of her friend Bat Masterson, a gunslinger-turned-reporter who can use the power of the press to advocate for change.

The Gold Rush Lawman

During the initial pursuit, a sheriff's deputy from a neighboring county is killed, leaving Sheriff Adams and Deputy Sheriff R.B. Hall to rally a second effort to bring the criminals to justice. Using the advanced knowledge of the California terrain that he gained from his days as a prospector, Adams finds their hideout and puts an end to their reign of terror once and for all. Years later, gunslinger-turned-reporter Bat Masterson tracks down former Deputy Sheriff R.B. Hall to get the real story behind one of the Old West's legendary lawmen.

Last Shot at the OK Corral

In an odd twist of fate, the couple locates their studio next to a dusty corral that soon becomes the site of the most infamous gunbattle of the Old West. On October 26, 1881, gunfire erupts outside the studio windows, and they are pulled into the conflict when one of the men bursts through their door to seek shelter from the onslaught. When the bullets stop flying, the Flys realize that it's up to them to document what happened, or the truth may be lost to history. Years later, Mollie Fly is hired to take the portrait of gunslinger-turned-reporter Bat Masterson, and he gets the real story of the last shot taken at the legendary Shootout at the O.K. Corral.

Jim Roberts Cleans Up Jerome

Battle Beneath the Mountain

Though the conflict appears to be over, hard feelings spill to the surface, and J. Marion Moore, owner of the Ida Elmore Mine is gunned down in the streets of Silver City. Years later, gunfighter-turned-reporter Bat Masterson tracks down one of the surviving miners to get the real story of the Battle Beneath the Mountain.
