Preparations for Christmas

Sun, Dec 18, 1955

Dave Garroway hosts this video tour as we see how people prepare for Christmas in the U.S., as well as Canada, Cuba and Mexico. In Washington, D.C., "The Pageant of Peace" is opened as President Eisenhower flips the switch on for the lighting of the Christmas tree near the White House. In Havana, Cuba, Christmas decorations at the Tropicana nightclub are seen, where a floor show is in progress. In Juarez, Mexico, cameras follow the Christmas procession known as the Posado. In Quebec, Canada, at the resort hotel, The Chateau Frontenac, in the cultural center of French Canada, choirboys gather to sing Christmas hymns. Cameras also witness preparations for the hostelry's great Christmas dinner. In Mount Washington, New Hampshire, the weather station atop the mountain forecasts the Yuletide weather. At the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, the choir sings, and in Marietta, South Carolina, there's a turkey shoot going on, and the Ritchie family sings "The Cherry Tree Carol" and "The 12 Days of Christmas."
