Nele and her new colleague Paul Schott are savvy enough detectives to recognize the Seemärling as a myth and create a perpetrator profile that points to a sex offender. But then a boat catches fire several kilometers away, drawing all police resources away from Nele's house, where Mechthild, left alone, is desperately fighting an intruder. A shot rings out. When Nele and Paul realize they have fallen for a diversionary tactic, Paul's outstanding skills, which he apparently acquired as a police officer in Kabul, come into play.

It all looks like routine for the Water Police: A poacher disguised as a fisherman is caught, but manages to evade capture thanks to his nimble getaway boat. Meanwhile, Nele Fehrenbach and her colleague Paul Schott discover the body of wealthy farmer Otto Brunner, shot dead, on the nearby shore. Their investigation leads them to a pair of brothers who couldn't be more different. On one side of the property they inherited from their father, burdened with debt, lives the successful fruit grower Fred Romberg, and on the other side lives his rather neglected brother Sepp, who scrapes by with petty crime. Despite all their arguments, both brothers share a deadly hatred for their neighbor, the murdered Brunner. Brunner had recently hired private investigator Josef Stocker. Since an accident, Stocker has been confined to a wheelchair, lives on an old motor yacht in the port of Constance, and, on Brunner's orders, was not only searching for the mysterious poacher who had eluded the water police. He was also following Fred's beautiful wife, Vera, to an excessive degree. When she suddenly disappears, events spiral out of control. Long-hidden connections are suddenly revealed. For Nele, Paul, Julia, and Pirmin, time is now ticking far too quickly.

Episode 8
48 mins
Nele Fehrenbach and Paul Schott have never made such a strange discovery before: a sailing boat that had long been reported missing is drifting on Lake Constance - and on board is a TV star who is also missing, but who simply cannot remember how she got there. It quickly turns out that Nana von Lohe is the daughter of a deceased famous plastic surgeon who ran his clinic on the lake. When the police deliver Nana to her family, they get their first surprise. Instead of reacting with relief and joy, Nana's sister Benita and stepmother Ilsa seem rather uncertain and nervous. Curious, the police, supported by their Swiss colleague Captain Aubry, uncover a number of inconsistencies. Was medical malpractice being covered up? Benita von Lohe, who took over the clinic from her father as a surgeon, would be particularly interested in this. And who is the great unknown who is interested in the clinic? Did the stepmother want to get rid of the youngest child so as not to have to share the inheritance? Finally, it is the hands-on Mechthild Fehrenbach who, with her love of Baden cuisine, discovers a crucial clue. Nana von Lohe occasionally helped TV chef Eckehard Prinz as an assistant. And then she suddenly disappeared again.
