Episode 1

The Martin Poster

When the bounty hunter Josh Randall visits the marshal's office in La Tunas, he steps straight into a tense situation, where the robber Andy Martin is trying to uncage his brother Carl from jail. Josh intervenes, but is knocked down. Carl kills the marshal, and the two brothers escape through the back door. In fleeing Carl is shot in his shoulder by Josh. When the townspeople find Josh and the dead marshal, they accuse Josh of the murder, as they are convinced that it was he who was trying to uncage Carl Martin to be able to get the award for him. Josh pulls his gun and flees through the back door. It is his intention to capture the brothers - dead or alive - and bring them back to La Tunsa, to get the reward for Andy Martin, but also to prove his own innocence.

Fatal Memory

Josh Randall rides into Fort Considine, a deserted military camp. All soldiers left some years ago, except the retired Colonel Sykes and his daughter Jody. Sykes has sent a telegram to Josh, asking him for help. Someone has spread a poster announcing 1000 dollars in reward for Colonel Sykes, dead or alive, but the poster is a fake. The man who made the poster obviously wants some bounty hunter to kill Sykes, instead of doing it himself. After some investigation among printers in the area, Josh finds out who printed the poster. The printer says he was forced to do it by a man called Ben Hood. Josh had met Ben during the war. He deserted from the army to get married. In a trial he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for desertion, on a proposal by Colonel Sykes. But Josh finds out that Ben Hood died 10 months ago in jail, so he cannot be the one behind the poster.

The Bounty

Josh is allowed by some Indians to use their village well, although they meet him in a very unkindly way. When Josh relates this incident to his old acquaintance John at the Sheriff's Office in Miles City, John tells him that he have met the Indian Charlie Two-Hawks and the half-breed Juanita Hernandez. Juanita and her father Juan Hernandez have lived 15 years with a tribe of Indians two days away from Miles City. They are very reclusive, and never visit the town. John is suddenly interrupted by the bounty hunter Daimler, who steps into the office and says that he overheard them. Daimler is convinced that the mysterious Juan Hernandez in reality is Don Diego Vasquez, who has been wanted 15 years for murder. There is a reward of 500 dollars for him - dead or alive - and Daimler is going to get it. Josh promises the sheriff to stop Daimler from killing Juan Hernandez. Instead he will bring the old man alive to Miles City for a fair trial.

Dead End

Josh finds a poster announcing a reward of $500, but without more information besides a reference to the Parker Ranch. At the ranch the manager Noonan tells Josh that a week ago they found the safe opened by force and $10,000 stolen. At the same time the worker Juan Portilla disappeared. Noonan asks Josh to capture Juan and bring him back alive. Juan's fiancée, Conchita Morales, refuses to cooperate, but relents when Josh tells her that if he doesn't capture Juan alive, someone else will kill him. She tells Josh that Juan probably is at a place up in the mountains called Gorge Del Diablo. When Josh rides away, Luis Portillo, Juan's father, trails him, but is soon detected. Josh forces Luis to accompany him as a hostage. On the path upwards they find some of Juan's personal belongings dropped on purpose, which makes them suspicious.

Passing of Shawnee Bill

Randall wins a large sum of money at poker in the saloon in Hooker, Texas. He is observed by a man called William Poe, who afterwards comes up with a proposal. He wants them to catch the outlaw Shawnee Bill together, and share the 2000 dollars reward. He cannot do it on his own, because he has a broken arm. His only condition is that he wants his share of 1000 dollars in advance. He knows that Shawnee Bill lives in Trinidad, Colorado, 80 miles from the Texas border, and 170 miles from here. Randall accepts the proposal, and gives Poe 1000 dollars. The next morning Poe puts the money in an envelope, writes an address on it, and puts it in the US mailbag in the Butterfield stage, which is just going to leave. When the stagecoach has disappeared, Poe turns to Randall, and says that the game is over, because he is Shawnee Bill himself, and Randall cannot bring him to Colorado through the rough country in a six days' ride. But Randall says he can, and off they go. During the ride they are tailed by a man called Galt, who also wants to catch Shawnee Bill.

The Giveaway Gun

Josh Randall rides into Lauring, New Mexico, where the bank manager Mr. Walker wants to engage him to seize a man called Clay Whiteside, dead or alive. Five years ago Whiteside robbed the bank. He was caught and the money restored, but on his way to prison he run away, and hasn't been seen thereafter. Three months before the bank robbery he killed Walker's only son in a gunfight. Now Walker has found out that Whiteside is in Banner, Texas. He and Randall must go to Banner and seize him, although they have to ride for two weeks through the wasteland to get there. During the ride Walker gets deadly ill. Randall has to leave him in a cottage, and continue on his own. To identify Whiteside, Walker tells Randall that he should look for a man who grabs his right wrist with his left hand, when he fires. In Banner no one knows such a man, not even the sheriff Earl Tipton. Instead Randall bumps into the gangster Phil, who he captured three years ago and brought to prison. When Phil tries to kill Randall outside town, sheriff Tipton intervenes, and during the shooting reveals his true identity.

Ransom for a Nun

The saloon where Josh is playing cards suddenly goes quiet when two nuns enter. The Mother Superior walks over to Josh who stands as she approaches. She tells him that one of their novices, Sister Grace, who is seventeen was taken hostage by members of Lon Kidder's gang who want her returned. Kidder, a confessed murderer, is being held by the Sheriff in the local jail awaiting transport to Tucson, Arizona. The Sheriff refuses to release Kidder as it would invite the same action from other outlaws. Josh volunteers to take Kidder to Tucson for no pay. The Sheriff goes along realizing Josh has a short detour in mind. Kidder takes Josh to the hideout where Josh makes the switch cleanly. After he and Sister Grace are away from the hideout, he tries to convince her to return to the convent alone but instead she trails him when he returns to the hideout the next morning. The men are gone but Sister Grace tells him they are headed to Mexico via Mission Junction. Josh heads there but finds he still has a persistent tail but perhaps a lucky one.

Miracle at Pot Hole

While having dinner with Chester Miller in a restaurant, Josh shows him a gold nugget. He convinces Miller to ride with him to his mine as a potential investor. While on the road, they come to a sign indicating they are entering Pot Hole County. When Miller balks, Josh pulls a poster from his hat showing Miller is really Penfold Crane wanted for murder in Pot Hole with a reward of $200. Crane tries to tell Josh there is no justice in Pot Hole but Josh won't listen saying he has never been there. At Pot Hole he turns Crane over to Chute Wilson who owns the saloon, is the sheriff, prosecutor, and judge. Josh collects his reward but when Wilson tells his men to gather a crowd for an immediate trial, Josh decides to stay and watch. Chute is more interested in everyone buying drinks than the trial but under prodding finally starts it after Father Miguel tries to stop it. As the trial gets under way, Josh tries to speak up when he realizes it is far from a proper trial but loses his $200 reward for his effort forcing him to take other steps.

The Fourth Headstone

As Josh prepares to leave a town he notices an election poster for an old friend, Sheriff Sam Gladstone. He decides to visit Sam who is happy to see him but has a problem. He needs someone to transport a prisoner back for trial. With no deputies available, Josh offers to escort the prisoner back which is a three day trip each way as a friendly gesture. Before Sam gives him the job, he requests Josh accompany him to the graveyard where he shows Josh the three tombstones of the murder victims. The suspected triple murderer is almost certain to hang. What Randall didn't anticipate was the prisoner being a beautiful young woman who insists she's innocent of the three killings. Sheriff Pete Link holding the prisoner can't believe she is capable of murder himself. On the trip back Josh finds her to be a very pleasant and even helpful prisoner. She even chases down and returns his horse which ran away at one point resulting in Josh wondering if he wants to return her to face a hanging.

Til Death Do Us Part

A stagecoach arrives in town with several passengers who disembark. One of them dressed as a riverboat captain makes a detour to the hotel where he slides a piece of paper under a door. The woman inside, Stacy Torrance, picks it up discovering it is a wanted poster - for her. She is wanted for murder with a reward of $300. She has been working as a dealer in the saloon where Josh is gambling. At the saloon she asks to talk privately with Josh. She tells him she is a woman on the lam for murdering her abusive husband and needs the help of her friend. Initially reluctant, he is willing to investigate her belief that her husband is still alive and responsible for the wanted posters that have made her a lucrative target for bounty hunters. He leaves her locked in his hotel room while he runs down the stage but finds the husband left the stage earlier at a deserted town. Upon returning to town he learns other bounty hunters are after Stacy including some locals.

The Favor

Josh Randall has been asked by his friend Sheriff Hank Bedloe to come and meet him secretly in the hotel at Sand Rock. Josh arrives finding an unfriendly crowd in town. One of the men challenges Josh asking if he is looking for Sheriff Bedloe as is the rest of the town. Josh brushes him off to go to Bedloe's room where he finds Bedloe with outlaw Gabe Justin tied up. Gabe says he and Ted Jenks were the ones who held up the bank and murdered a bank clerk. Bedloe wants Josh to go to the outlaw town Bent Fork to bring Jenks back to stand trial. Josh initially doesn't want to go but grudgingly agrees to take on the job. He makes his way to the saloon in Bent Fork where he asks about Jenks but the men there are tight lipped. He eventually finds Jenks and starts back with him although Jenks protests that he is innocent. On the trail they are followed making the trip dangerous as Josh pushes on.

Episode 12

Ricochet

Josh arrives in High Mesa where he locates Sheriff Adler in the restaurant eating. When he asks for directions to Ruth Conners, the sheriff suddenly gives him the cold shoulder and forces him to wait until he is done eating. At the sheriff's office, Adler finally relents. Josh rides to the Connors home where Mrs. Connors tells him her husband left her but she is willing to pay a "bounty" to have Josh find and return him. While talking, Victor Kincaid enters with a load of firewood who Mrs. Connors introduces. Josh believes he may have seen Dr. Connors in another town but he refuses to say which one. He rides to the town with Dr. Connors picture from the poster but no one will admit they know him including the bar maid Dora Gaines. That night in a dark alley three men beat up Josh warning him to leave town. Not knowing why Josh is in town, Miguel Ramierez finds him and helps him get first aid. When Josh spots Victor in town, he realizes there is a problem.

Sheriff of Red Rock

Josh is bringing Orv Daniels in for the bounty when they are ambushed by two men. Josh is quickly forced to give up when he is encircled. The men Stoner and Evans tell Josh they do all the bounty hunting in the area and they will take Daniels. When Josh argues, Stoner makes Daniels believe he is going to release him. However, Stoner shoots Daniels in the back as he rides off. Josh uses the distraction to escape and recapture the wounded Daniels. Upon arriving at the sheriff's office with Daniels, Josh is confronted by Stoner and Evans who say Daniels is theirs. The sheriff jails Daniels and Josh while calling the doctor to tend to Daniels. The sheriff is in fact working with Stoner and Evans. He lets prisoners escape and they return them for the bounty. Realizing Daniels and Josh can land them in trouble, they allow them to escape planning to "eliminate" the problem. Josh realizing the setup warns Daniels not to leave but he does and is killed. Josh uses the opportunity to fake his escape and make a safer getaway but he must still clear his name.

Die by the Gun

In the rain two men wearing shackles find a lone prospector under a canvas with a fire. Realizing his gun is not reachable he offers the men what they want but the younger Cox strangles him to death as Kale watches. They use his mining tools to break the shackles. Meanwhile, Josh with his young prisoner Joe Sands are the only passengers on the stagecoach with driver Nebro who is carrying wanted posters for Kale and Cox who escaped from a deputy. They are leaving El Pasitio, Arizona and have one stop before arriving at their destination. On the trail they find a tree felled onto the road. As they prepare to move it, Kale and Cox pop up and tell them to drop their weapons. Once learning who Josh is, Kale has Cox remove the firing pin from Josh's gun and return it to Josh. Cox rides as shotgun while Kale acts like he is Josh's prisoner while Sands is told to say he is traveling alone. The three men are hostages and they must get past the stop at Camerons for fresh horses.

Rawhide Breed

The Kreager brothers are in the middle of Indian country, where the Apache are on the warpath, hoping to catch the stagecoach carrying their brother. He is Josh's prisoner, wanted for robbery and murder. The stage is attacked by the Apaches killing the driver, shotgun and Josh's prisoner. However, Josh and the easterner Jefferson Klingsmith survive inside the coach as the Apaches ride off. After burying the bodies they light out on foot for the next relay station 20 miles away across the desert. There they find it burned so, after again burying the bodies, Josh decides they should take the shorter route cross country to Fort Apache as the other stations will be burned with Apaches in the area. At the same time Jefferson does not trust Josh's motives or western ways. They walk near an Apache camp where Josh kills one guard who attacked him followed by a fight with a young brave who they capture and take prisoner. After Josh destroys his Indian Medicine, he leads them to a poisoned water hole and escapes. They must continue on foot with no water trailed by Apaches and the Kreager brothers.

Eight Cent Reward

As Josh prepares to leave on Christmas Eve for Butte, young Laddie Stone and his dog enter the saloon with a job offer for Josh. He has eight cents to hire Josh to find Santa Claus. Before Josh can say much two locals, Harkrader and Vale, turn the offer into a joke on the boy saying Josh can have Santa Claus there by dinner time causing the boy to run out yelling for joy. The sheriff and the bartender as well as Josh are not amused letting the two know what they did. The sheriff says the Stone family had a successful sheep ranch but wolves have taken half of his flock. Josh rides to their house finding Laddie out doing chores but two upset parents. He explains what happened and learns Laddie won't tell them what he wants for Christmas but they have disappointed him the last two years and his dad wants to tell him the truth. Josh decides to find Santa by using the town drunk but things go awry - or do they.

Drop to Drink

As a lone rider carrying the U.S. Mail rides through a rough, hilly and dry area two masked men stop him. When he tries to ride off, one of the robbers, Frank Parish, shoots him. They search the saddle bags containing the mail but don't find what they are seeking. Later, Josh arrives in Tucson, Arizona at the Continental Express Company office where he meets Inspector John Bascomb who had sent for him and rider Sam Jarvis. Bascomb explains that their riders are being ambushed on the road and they need help. They offer Josh $1000 to catch the killer. The holdups are on the road north to Flagstaff south of the stop at Tipton. They believe the robbers are after a $20,000 ring ordered by a miner who struck it rich. Josh rides ahead of Jarvis but is spotted and recognized. The robbers decide to switch the signs pointing to Tipton and the desert. Jarvis heads toward the desert but realizes there is a problem. Parish kills his horse but Jarvis wounds Dixon. Josh realizes there is a problem and must backtrack to find his quarry with an odd partner - Parish.

Rope Law

Josh and Brace Logan are met on the range by a group of men who want Logan, Josh's prisoner. When he refuses, he's hit from behind and loses Logan. When he gets to town to file a complaint he is surprised to find the sheriff was the leader of the men and his son was the one who hit him. Realizing he won't get justice, he finds the son Damon Ring, Jr. in the saloon and extracts his own justice. After a word with the bartender, Josh takes an interest in the case now and is determined to find the truth...especially since the sheriff's son wants to organize a lynching. He returns to the jail to see Logan who tells him he signed a confession put in front of him but he was drunk that night after taking $100 from his step-daughter who he supposedly killed. Josh then talks to Judge L.L. Cooper who never heard about the money and had some doubts. The Judge says he will try to stop the lynching while Josh investigates the new evidence. Logan's wife reluctantly gives Josh new details which has Josh believing he knows why the push for a lynching.

Six-Up to Bannach

Josh needs a ride to Bannach fast in order to stop an unjust hanging. His prisoner, John Gillette, is alive and the man who was supposedly murdered. Josh needs to get him to Bannach to prove he is alive. Gillette is wounded so he can't ride on horseback. He needs to be there by noon on Friday three days away. The only mode of transportation available is a stagecoach carrying a load of dynamite with a surly driver, Luke Perry, who doesn't take well to Josh. He reluctantly agrees to allow Josh and his prisoner to travel with them after Josh explains the situation. Besides Perry driving the stagecoach slowly to be safe, there are a number of obstacles on the way to slow them down...a river to pass, a washed out bridge and a prisoner who doesn't want to cooperate.

The Spurs

A man and a woman meet in a dark back alley just as the man changes personal belongs with the already dead man. He rides off while she tears her clothing, and shoots a derringer at the man making it look as if she shot him in self defense. Josh Randall arrives the next morning in Lordsville looking for Vic Warsaw, a killer he has been trailing. After hearing Josh describe Warsaw and provide his name, the sheriff informs Randall that Warsaw was shot and killed and has been buried showing him the papers found on the body. Josh discovers that the man was shot by Lucy Fremont the town seamstress. Upon learning who Warsaw was and the bounty on him, the Sheriff leaves for a U.S. Marshal and the reward which will go to Lucy. His deputy against orders quickly spreads the news. However, after investigating Warsaw's personal effects Josh begins to suspect that Vic Warsaw may still be alive. He begins to question Lucy Fremont in order to get at the truth as she wonders why Josh knows Warsaw is still alive.

Reunion for a Revenge

Four men escape from Yuma Prison by hiding in barrels with a thirst for revenge against a man named Aben Starr who turned them in after their first escape. One of the barrels falls off the wagon causing the driver to stop. The barrel contains Cutler who is slightly injured in the fall. One of the other men shoots the driver when he goes to inspect the barrel. Starr works at the Saddle Creek Way Station and Randall shows up there expecting the men to arrive also. Soon two of the escapees, Martin Ash and Henry Turner, do arrive taking Josh and Starr captive while waiting for their partners to show. Before they do a stage rides in carrying a Quaker and his deaf-mute sister on their way to a school for other deaf-mutes. They all wait for the other two men to show up so they can carry out their revenge against Starr. The Quaker is killed going for a horse when he goes out for water leaving Josh and Starr with the woman who does read lips and understands Josh's silent request for help.

Competition

Josh is in Benson for a bit of vacation when two bounty hunters, Ralph Meadows and Al Jarrett, arrive with a dead man. The man is wanted but he was the mayor of Benson so his murder does not go over well with Sheriff Don Neely and the citizens. Their unethical methods offend Josh and he wants nothing to do with them. Josh tries to mind his own business but they think he's waiting for a big score and want in on it. Not realizing Josh is also a bounty hunter, the owner of the saloon/restaurant, Helen Martin, takes an interest in Josh by introducing herself. Finding her beautiful as well as intriguing Josh asks her to join him for a midnight buggy ride. However, Meadows and Jarrett's constant surveillance soon wears on Josh when Jarrett starts to follow Josh and Helen plus their presence in Benson is driving business away from town. He devises a scheme using Helen's talent to pit the two against each other.

Josh rides into the town of Varga looking for Gabe Henshaw who is offering Josh his last $30 to find his son Wilt's body. Gabe's home is decorated with black bunting and the bedraggled Gabe is wearing a black armband to indicate he is in mourning. Gabe explains to Josh that Will left the house Thursday night and never came home. He believes Will was murdered and wants to find his body to properly bury it. Josh taking the $30 visits elderly Sheriff M. Comstock who says Will simply took off because he was ashamed of Gabe. Josh then visits the Fenton household hoping to talk to their daughter Abbie who Gabe believes was going to marry Wilt. Her father says she is ill but that Abbie is going to marry Jed Miller who told Josh Wilt left town. Josh decides to return the money to Gabe and leave town but when Abbie stops him saying she must talk to him later, he decides to stay. However, at the meeting Josh is attacked and knocked out by Miller's men putting a new perspective on things.

Secret Ballot

As Josh rides into town he notices a banner across the street promoting his Civil ?War friend Ned Easter for mayor. As he dismounts a man uses a rope to pull the banner down. Josh confronts him but decides to walk away when the man is joined by others including Sheriff Steve Pax. Josh finds his friend and wife Carole at Ned's election headquarters. Josh was asked by Carole to come help Ned but when he starts to mention it, Carole quickly pushes Ned out the door to speak at a rally. After he leaves, she tells Josh she doesn't want Ned to know she asked him to come and that Ned needs help against the mayor and his brother the sheriff who run a corrupt system. Noise outside causes Josh to run out in time to see a man rope Ned and start dragging him. Josh fires to stop it as Mayor Barney Pax fires at his brother to stop him from shooting Josh. Barney apologizes and invites everyone for drinks on him essentially hijacking the event for his benefit. When Josh reveals Sheriff Steve Pax is actually wanted in Colorado, he soon finds himself on the other side of the law and in trouble with Ned.

The Corner

Josh is in Kenton playing cards when a friend Boone Morgan enters and asks to talk to Josh who says he will be with him as soon as the hand is over. Boone nodding agreement backs up to the door where he faints. Josh rushes to him finding Boone has been shot in the side. They take him to Dr. Dan Wood but Boone passes away due to blood loss after making Josh promise to take him home. Josh claims the body to take to Boone's family in Cameron where they both lived for a while. Boone's father and sister are glad to see Josh but saddened at the news of Boone. Back in Kenton Morley and Fred Teton arrive asking about Boone and when they learn he is dead they want the $500 reward on Boone's head but the sheriff states Josh claimed the body and is due the reward. The Teton brothers follow Josh to Cameron to get their money while two telegraph messages from the sheriff to Cameron leave the mistaken impression Josh killed Boone for the reward putting Josh in jeopardy.

Eager Man

Josh in a casino at Almagordo eating a steak when Gar Foley sits down with him. He warns Josh to stay away from Ted Nelson followed by a fight between them with Josh kicking Foley out of the casino. He returns to his seat joined by the bar maid Ruth. Sheriff Pat Garret walks in and sits down with Josh. Although they are friends, he tells Josh he bit off a large bite with Foley. Pat wants no gun play in town so he tells Josh he must leave town. As Pat walks out another woman walks in asking to talk to Josh in private. She is Anne Nelson wife of outlaw Ted Nelson who is also a friend of Josh. She tells Josh she wants Ted to turn himself in. Since he has never killed anyone, he would get prison time only and then return to her. Josh agrees to meet Ted but realizes Foley may follow. Josh stops him and ties him to a tree. Ted says he will give himself up if Josh gives half the reward to Anne to let her return to her family and forget him. After agreeing, Josh returns to town where he makes a deal with Pat to protect Ted. However, the plan unravels.

As Josh mounts his horse to leave town Billy Clegg pulls a gun and tells Josh to dismount hands free. Josh does so but is able to jump and knock out Clegg. In Clegg's hat he finds a wanted poster wanting Josh dead or alive for $1000 by Sam McGarrett. Josh rides to McGarrett's home at Dos Mesas, New Mexico where he finds Sam wants him for his expertise to lead his family to a lost gold treasure in a desert Josh knows. The treasure was on a ship that became locked inland after a seismic event. Josh turns down the offer but when Sam raises the pay to $5000 Josh signs on. Sam wants to take his daughter Beth and son Clay with them although Josh advises against taking Beth. Meanwhile, Clegg and his bounty hunter partner Vince Slater head for Dos Mesas as well to track down Josh. It becomes obvious Beth won't last so they drop her off with Josh's friend George Belden. Clegg and Slater track Josh to Belden's place who unknowingly sends them after Josh and the McGarretts.

At the Two Creeks water stop a man hands a young man $2 to give the brakeman to let them ride the rails. The older man is taking a nap in a boxcar when the brakeman wakes him up and tells him to leave the train. When the man tells him he paid, the brakeman, Ed Bruner, uses a wood club to knock him out. He finds the man has a money belt and an ID showing he is a Pinkerton agent. Bruner throws the body off the moving train. At Solberg Josh gets off the train to find himself under arrest for the murder. However, he can prove he was a paying customer in the caboose. As Sheriff Pig Wells lets him go, Bruner brings the young man, Sim Cole, to the Sheriff saying he did it. When Josh goes to retrieve his horse from Pop Michaels, he learns there has been a series of train related murders and there is a $200 reward anyone who kills a Pinkerton agent. He decides to visit Cole in jail. After hearing his story, he decides to go to Juniper Wells to find the killer but bad decisions nearly kill him.

In 1871 Josh is at the back stage of the opera house to meet the famous British singer Stella Winter. After being directed to her dressing room she meets him at the door. Upset, she starts to tell Josh about her problem as she hands him a note detailing a ransom note for her sister. The distraught singer faints with Josh catching her and laying her down on a sofa. As he looks for something to wake her up, he notices her diamonds on the dressing table. She on the other hand is awake watching to see what he does. He turns to find her standing. She is convinced he is honest so she continues to show him the note which indicates her sister Amy has been kidnapped. A ransom of $5000 is to be paid for her at the livery stable in Sugar Creek the next night. Josh agrees to pay the ransom after ensuring she is okay. At Sugar Creek he meets a man named Mason who refuses to give any details about Amy and says he is just the intermediary. Josh refuses to pay until Mason provides more proof and decides to follow him uncovering a confused situation.

The Kovack Affair

Josh walks across the muddy street to check into The Outrider House. He stops to clean his muddy shoes for the shoeshine boy outside but a heavyset man ignores the boy even after Josh tries to convince him to help keep the posh hotel clean. As Josh prepares to go to his room a beautiful woman comes down the stairs. When she catches him watching, she speaks to him. When the clerk says his name, she realizes Josh is there to see Jesse Holloway who manages the property for her. Jesse tells Josh she owns the Outrider after bringing it from Wichita. Their problem is that she borrowed money from Peter Kovack for a contract to run the gambling for a year but now he wants the whole property. Kovack enters without knocking saying he is giving Meghan one last chance but Jesse throws him out. Jesse wants Josh to be the pit boss to catch Kovack's card sharks but their talk is interrupted by the sound of the saloon being destroyed and Jesse won't stop them. Josh prepares to leave until Jesse returns from a meeting with Kovack badly beaten. Josh then concocts his own plan in spite of Megan.

Josh rode hard and fast to reach the Albright Ranch based on an assignment offer of $1000. Damon Albright is glad to see he arrived so quickly as Josh asks what the job is. Damon responds that he wants Josh to marry his daughter at which point Josh is poised to leave until Damon pushes on with his request. Fifteen years earlier the Apaches under Victorio raided his ranch killing his wife and stealing his daughter Doris who was raised as an Apache princess. Damon has sent two men to reclaim her but they did not return. Based on information from the trader Yanqui Jones who has seen his daughter it is time for her to marry under Apache law. There is a three day period of peace in which Josh can vie for her hand. They might be married under Apache law but the marriage won't be recognized under white law. Josh and Jones ride to the Apache camp with four horses and two pack horses loaded with gifts. The brave Black Horse has tied his horse in front of her tepee and Victorio allows Josh to do the same but his battle has just started.

Josh rides into a small settlement in the desert on near the Superstition Mountains. As he draws water, a man named Bannister walks up to greet Josh. The stop is called Star and he is the county judge and a horse trader among other things. Josh hands him a wanted poster for Joe Collins to see if Bannister has seen the outlaw come through. Bannister says he hasn't seen him but keeps the poster to compare against a picture he owns after Josh leaves. A bit later Josh on the trail runs into Bannister fixing a horseshoe with a couple of rocks. He finally admits to Josh he thinks the man might be his dead son Jody who was killed in an Army battle in Juarez. He leads Josh to a hunting cabin they used to use in the mountains. When they break in, they find Collins passed out shot in the arm and Bannister denies knowing him. Bannister digs out the bullet. When Josh takes guard duty over the horses, Bannister tells Jody he is there to help him. During his stint as guard, he says four Apaches attacked taking two horses forcing Josh to go for help.

In Copper City Sarah dressed as a man watches as Josh teases kids playing and enters the general store owned by Eustace Branley. Josh has ordered ammo in preparation to leave and is stocking up on supplies. Josh leaves for the barbershop. As the barber lays him back in the chair, Sarah fires missing him. She races into the livery with Josh outside telling the shooter to come out with hands and gun up in the air. Instead she rides out knocking Josh to the ground but in losing her hat exposes she is a woman. Josh catches her deciding to take her to the Valley upon hearing her story but that becomes a dangerous move - for both of them.

Littlest Client

Josh arrives at the St. Elizabeth Home for Girls based on a letter he received expecting to meet a young woman name Dolly Cleary. Sister Clavina introduces Dolly who turns out to a young girl who tells Josh she wants him to find her parents because she knows they are alive. Sister Clavina asks Dolly to wait outside and then explains to Josh that Dolly receives an unmarked package every so often but she believes Dolly is better off to assume her parents are dead. Josh tries to leave without seeing Dolly but she catches him outside and the soft hearted Josh can't refuse her request. With no clues he turns to Craig the bartender who knows no Clearys but calls over old timer Hardrock Johnson who recognizes the name. The father Matt is alive but a drunk who left Dolly at the school after her mother was killed in a buggy accident due to his drinking. Josh decides to visit Matt Cleary but finds a large obstacle besides the fact that Matt is a drunk and unfit father.

At a camp near the Mexican border Grant Mandeville is recruiting an army to liberate Mexico. He found a young recruit Arnold Wilson who is passionate about the task and a great speaker who can attract men to the cause. In reality Grant and his second in command Gregg Haggerty are only interested in liberating gold and silver from the Mexicans. The local sheriff and Senor Rubiro, the Mexican Counsel to Arizona, visit Mandeville to ask him to not invade or the Mexican Army will attack him as an enemy. Before he leaves the sheriff reveals that the U.S. Army is on the way to stop Mandeville. Shortly afterwards a young boy leads Josh to the camp pointing out Wilson. Josh tells Wilson and Mandeville that he is taking Wilson back to his father but is knocked out by Haggerty. The boy rides off with Josh's horse and returns with the sheriff. When they awaken Josh, the camp is empty leaving Josh with the only option of heading into Mexico after Wilson. However, his task is complicated by Mexicans who are after the plundering Mandeville.

Josh is waiting at the local doctor's office when Amos Carter comes in to find out about the patient Josh found on the road shot. Dr. Johnathon M. Kirk comes out but indicates to Amos the patient died - Carter's dog Jamie. Amos says he going to kill Chester Blake for shooting Jamie. In the saloon the doctor and bartender explain there is a decades old feud between the Carters and the Blakes. Josh assumes someone would try to stop the feud but as long as the shooting is outside of town no one cares. Upon hearing this Josh mocks the locals for cowardice and bragging he wouldn't let that happen. The doctor and bartender decide to call his bluff by putting up $100 each for Josh if he stops the feud. Josh decides to take the offer but is forced to stop the feud first. He rides out to see Blake but finds himself a target of Blank and his son and then in the middle of the feud when Carter arrives for revenge.
