Tori Vega who has lived in the shadow of her older sister Trina, gets the chance of a lifetime when she fills in for her sister during a talent show and is given the opportunity to transfer to her sister's school, the elite Hollywood Arts High School. However, the transition proves to be difficult when she forced to deal with a girl named Jade who spots her with her boyfriend, as well as many of the other unorthodox students and teachers, which causes her to wonder if she truly belongs there.

No student at Hollywood Arts High School is allowed to perform in any plays or sketches unless they perform a monologue revolving around a bird, and Tori who's no exception to this rule, desperately tries to fine tune her performance any way she can so she can star in a subsequent play that Andre is working on. Meanwhile, Andre and Robbie sign up for ballet class in the hope of meeting girls, only to find out that plenty of other young men at the school had the same idea.

The only way to get the solvent for the glue is to go to Bakersfield. It's a race against time as Trina and Cat are sent on a drive to retrieve it only to get distracted by ice cream, get pulled over by a cop, and wind up in other shenanigans, while Tori anxiously awaits to have the mask removed before her queue in the play.

Among these distractions, Andre has to deal with his crazed grandmother, Beck is distracted by the jealousy of Jade, Cat is distracted by the special effects on her computer, and Tori is distracted by a fight between Trina and a little boy who keeps kicking her back seat.

Tori's friends sing at a local karaoke club, and end up competing with a pair of stuck-up girls who are regular performers there. But regardless of how good they may be competing with those girls proves to be much more difficult than they expect, since one of the girls' father owns the club, and the competition is fixed. Outside of entertainment-related subjects, Tori struggles to take care of Trina after she undergoes dental surgery, while their parents take a trip to Santa Barbara. Tori later helps Jade and Cat get revenge on both girls, and after Hayley and Tara lose, they are stuck taking care of Trina.

As embarrassed as all the kids are to be part of this, a video of their silly performance may cost André an important music deal. Can he prove to the music company that he's a legitimate musician, despite his one-time appearance in a goofy costume?

Hollywood Arts has rejected an attempt by Jade to showcase one of her plays, but Tori ends up convincing the owner of her favorite Chinese restaurant to fund it's production at a nearby small theater. However the money does not come without a catch, when the owner insists that Jade transforms it into a musical, and adds her not-so-talented daughter to the cast as the angel. The situation is made even worse when Jade invites her disapproving father in an effort to prove that her artistic ambitions are credible.

Also, the Vega parents celebrate their anniversary and keep getting interrupted by unexpected company.
