Retired city cop Hauke Jacobs starts a new career as veterinarian in Ostsee small port town Schwanitz, where he bough a home boat. The only local vet dies from a suicidal car-dive in the canal before Hauke's eyes at arrival, despite local 'chief' cop Lona Vogt after him. So unconventional, in-living practice assistant Jule Christiansen is hired as Hauke takes over the patients. Beach-strolling, Jacob discovers a stranded fishing boat, aboard of which are parrot Käpt'n Hook and two corpses, the first in the (Lübeck) area in decades. Drowning in inexperience, Vogt commandeers reluctant Hauke's expertise. The case turns international: two Latvian ferry passengers are reported missing, in fact au pair-girls tracked down by human traffickers Matthias Keller and Viktors Berzins and hiding with local widower farmer Thorsten Riemann, being observed by Turkish tramp Mehmet Ösker.

As Lona and Hauke soon find out, in both cases nothing is as it seems. But things only get really dangerous when the cases get mixed up through a fateful encounter. Because Ms. Irmler is a ticking time bomb that urgently needs to be defused. The fact that Jule falls in love with the undercover investigator Timo doesn't make things any easier for Hauke.

And that means that the real victim is in great danger .

Only with the help of his veterinary assistant Jule Christiansen and his new colleague could Jacobs prove his innocence. There are increasing indications that Jan Bank was on the trail of a plot whose goal could be an assassination attempt on the top politician.

A rare epidemic has broken out there. Frederike Barrow blames her younger sister Conny for this. Conny then seeks consolation from Maik, who is hiding in a Barrow's barn. Before Hauke can find out what actually happened between Hannah and Maik, the young lovers set off on the next fateful raid .

He pulls out a lawyer's business card. He's there immediately, talks alone to his client - and shoots him. At the same time, Ansgar Brandel, the pastor in Schwanitz, is collecting money for a young widow in need. When he told the gang boss Mateo Talamantes about it while visiting prison as a pastor, he had a suggestion: He had just lost one of his messengers, and the pastor could like the job. He just has to drive a suitcase around every now and then. And if, contrary to expectations, there is trouble, here is his lawyer's card. Ansgar Brandel accepts - but at the first rest the car and the explosive drug load is promptly stolen from him. Namely from Stella, Jules veterinary fellow student. The two of them want to free a few unsuitable apes together and so unexpectedly get into the killer's sights.

Then a stranger shoots Santa Claus and the party is in complete danger. Leisure Santa Claus Martin has stood in for his buddy - was the fatal shot aimed at him? Does the man have to be protected? Or did he know they wanted to kill him - and killed two birds with one stone? In the winter hunt for the murderer, Hauke Jacobs, Hannah Wagner and veterinary assistant Jule prove to be a well-rehearsed team. The villagers have to get together and celebrate Christmas together. At the end Jule gets a big surprise, Blecki and Töteberg dance together with Ösker and Bine Pufal and the whole village. The perpetrator is convicted and - oh wonder - the Christmas skeptic Hauke Jacobs presents the children as Santa Claus.

So he repairs Hauke's broken boat engine and helps Hannah renovate her new house. Andy's mind, heart and instinct are more like a child's. When Andy finds his foster father Cem Brose dead, he is suspected of murder based on a testimony. Hauke and Hannah find out that Andy's adoptive father Cem Brose was once a treasure hunter. Could the murder have anything to do with a stolen diamond? The investigation leads to a second fatality and then Andy disappeared.

Hauke Jacobs is pushed to the extreme as an investigator by colleague Hannah Wagner, while Jule Christiansen is primarily concerned about her ailing father. A chance reunion with the Kiel police officer Jost Striesow leads Hannah to call her ex-colleague Lasse, with whom she once had an affair. It comes to light that Striesow was apparently lubricated by a powerful Kiel drug ring and is now on the run. He is said to have kidnapped a girl to prevent her from testifying in a criminal trial. Hauke and Hannah immediately start looking for the girl. They get support from Kiel: Lasse and his colleague Nina come to Schwanitz. But Hauke is skeptical about the two. Who can he really trust? And Hauke's jealousy of Lasse isn't exactly helping the investigation either. When the kidnapped girl is able to free herself and seeks protection from Jule's father Dirk of all people, everyone is in great danger.

A lead in the murder investigation into the death of informer Frank Schuster leads Hauke and Hannah to Kai Schwarz's local kennel. Meanwhile, Jule has to operate on Herbert Winter's bitch in the Jacobs-Christiansen group practice. The animal had apparently eaten deadly bait. Jule and Winter are looking for clues as to who might have set the bait. Jule has a suspicion. Hauke and Hannah examine the kennel. The main concern there is probably not the welfare of the animals, but rather the camouflage of an illegal transhipment point. The investigation uncovers a perfidious system. Extremely expensive and not yet approved cancer drugs are apparently smuggled from Poland to Germany - in the stomachs of the animals and at their own risk. A whole pack of dogs is currently on the move and in great danger of death.

Die Häftlinge nehmen Jule Christiansen, die ärztliche Hilfe leistet, und ihre Praktikantin Lea (Carolin Garnier) als Geiseln, ohne dass das jemand im Dorf merken darf. Eine schwierige Situation für Hauke und Hannah, die den Gangstern auf die Schliche kommen, aber Jule und die Praktikantin Lea nicht in Lebensgefahr bringen dürfen.

Kaum haben Hildegard Knutzen (Marion Kracht) und Jutta Weinert (Katja Danowski) mit Töteberg auf ihren verblichenen Mitspieler angestoßen, rast ein Wagen ungebremst in Tötebergs Garten. Der angeschossene Fahrer lebt gerade noch lange genug, um den dreien mitzuteilen, dass sich in seinem Kofferraum eine Menge Geld befindet. Ein rätselhaftes Geschehen, das komplizierte Ermittlungen und weitreichende Verwicklungen für Kommissarin Hannah Wagner nach sich zieht. Zudem suchen Hauke Jakobs und Jule Christiansen parallel auch noch nach einer geeigneten Unterstützung für die Tierarztpraxis .

Die Antwort auf diese Frage liefert Hauke sein eigentlich längst verstorbener Freund Simon Rost: Hauke liegt in Wahrheit im Koma. Genau wie Wigald Tomke. Und der Kampf zwischen Tomke und ihm ist ein Kampf darum, wer von beiden wieder ins Leben zurückkehren darf.

Bei den Ermittlungen ist sie Hauke Jacobs vom Polizeirevier Schwanitz nützlich, geht dafür aber sehr hohe Risiken ein. Derweil kommt Haukes Kollegin Hannah Wagner glücklich aus dem Urlaub wieder - frisch verlobt mit Kevin Behmur (Michael Raphael Klein), den sie auch gleich mitbringt. Nicht zur Freude aller.

Grit Hartmann hegt ein gut gehütetes Geheimnis: Vor ihrer Zeit als Friseurin von Schwanitz war sie viele Jahre als Auftragskillerin für die Hamburger Unterwelt tätig. Irgendwann hatte sie genug von dem schmutzigen Geschäft und ist in Schwanitz untergetaucht. Nach zehn Jahren hat nun ihr alter Auftraggeber Tjark (Jörg Pose) Wind von ihrem Aufenthaltsort bekommen und will das Geld zurück, das Grit ihm schuldet, aber längst nicht mehr hat. Die Chance, sich freizukaufen, bekommt sie, als sie im Toupet eines in Schwanitz ermordeten ehemaligen Postbeamten eine wertvolle Briefmarke findet. Hinter der Marke sind allerdings auch noch andere Leute her, die über Leichen gehen. Die Schwanitzer Polizisten Hauke Jacobs (Hinnerk Schönemann) und Hannah Wagner (Jana Klinge) haben also alle Hände voll zu tun. Und zum Leidwesen von Tierärztin Jule (Marleen Lohse) kommen sich die beiden bei den Ermittlungen zu diesem Fall auch noch unverhofft näher.

Die Lübeckerin Lena Helbing bezieht ein leerstehendes Haus, das in Schwanitz als Spukhaus verschrien ist. Angeblich geht dort der Geist von Inge Nolden um, die vor vielen Jahren von ihrem Mann verlassen wurde und sich aus Kummer erhängt hat. Und siehe da: Schon am Morgen nach ihrer ersten Nacht wird Lena Helbing ebenso wie Inge Nolden erhängt auf dem Dachboden aufgefunden. Hauke, Hannah und Jule stehen vor einem Rätsel. Für Herrn Töteberg (Stephan A. Tölle), Frau Bleckmann (Regine Hentschel) und den Rest von Schwanitz ist hingegen spätestens nach einer spiritistischen Sitzung klar: Die alte Nolden ist zurück und holt sich bald den nächsten Schwanitzer. Doch die Sache ist komplizierter - und hat mit einem alten, unaufgeklärten Verbrechen zu tun.

Doch nicht nur sie, sondern auch die Drahtzieher des Deals sind auf der Suche nach dem verschwundenen Geld. Einer der Toten ist Moritz Hansen - diese Entdeckung führt zu seiner Schwester Marie, die alle nur als "Pechmarie" kennen. Marie hat als Kind ihre Eltern und ihre Schwester bei einem Unfall verloren. Kurz darauf wurde sie auch noch vom Blitz getroffen und kann seitdem nicht mehr hören - in Schwanitz heißt es, sie ziehe das Unglück an. Marie muss nun nicht nur den Tod ihres geliebten Bruders verkraften, sondern erfährt auch, dass der Kredit für ihr Elternhaus an einen skrupellosen Investor vergeben wurde. Als sie herausfindet, dass Moritz das Haus retten wollte und ihr gleichzeitig einen Hinweis auf das fehlende Geld hinterlassen hat, ist sie fest entschlossen, den Lauf der Dinge diesmal umzukehren. Mit Hilfe von Jule Christiansen kommen Hauke und Hannah Marie auf die Spur. Doch wie geht man mit einer Frau um, der man nach so viel Pech im Leben das Glück eines unverhofften Geldsegens gönnt?

Doch beim Klingelrundgang bemerken die Polizisten im Haus der kauzigen Mareike Thorgard (Gitta Schweighöfer) Hinweise auf ein Gewaltverbrechen. Eine Waffe im Vorgarten, Blut in der Küche. Was ist passiert? Und wo ist Mareikes Sohn Jürgen (Pit Bukowski)? Hauke und Hannah verständigen die Spurensicherung und nehmen trotz der Evakuierung die Ermittlungen auf. Der Konflikt mit Hannahs Bruder, dem Kampfmittel-Spezialisten Frederik Wagner (Mike Hoffmann), ist vorprogrammiert. Derweil ist Jule Christiansen auf der Suche nach einem Mädchen, das bei einer Untersuchung in der Tierarztpraxis einfach davongelaufen ist. Jetzt stellt sich heraus, dass Roxana (Eilin Aliza) aus einem Heim in Kiel abgehauen und der mitgebrachte Hund gestohlen ist. Und doch scheint die herumstreunende Minderjährige nicht das größte Problem zu sein: Bei Hauke und Hannah erhärtet sich der Verdacht, dass sich die Waffenmafia in der Gegend herumtreibt. Was hat der skrupellose Soroka (Max Hopp) im beschaulichen Schwanitz zu suchen?
