Berg confidently checks his student results but finds out that he has dropped a spot and is only second. Berg tries to find out who's first so that he can sabotage him/her, but he finds the wrong person: it turns out that Ashley is the top student and is more than a match for him. He tries to get her drunk, but she outsmarts him and the tables are turned. Meanwhile, Pete's doing well with his architecture studies and is happy being second, until Ashley points out the problem with his model. Sharon uses Pete to pick up a new guy, Tim, the barman at the local bar, but he is more interested in Ashley.

Sharon finally tries to quit her job, but her boss offers her the use of the company facilities at Aruba over the weekend to reconsider her position. She doesn't want to go but Berg, in particular, wants to go and convinces them all to go. They are just about to leave when Pete gets a phone call about an immediate job interview with Farber that throws the plans into disarray. Farber keeps the job interview going on and on and on; Berg interferes in order to terminate it. Then Sharon has an urgent work commitment which Berg and Peter ensure ends quickly. Finally, Pete gets a hospital call that finishes the weekend. However, there turns out to be a happy ending.

Berg and Sharon are having trouble with their love lives, but Pete's mysterious new girlfriend has them curious. Unfortunately, it turns out that Berg had a one-night stand with her and she had his named tattooed on her body. Berg needs to know if she still has the tattoo and sends Sharon to her gym to find out. Ashley also belongs to the gym and spots the name. Berg and Nicole meet and he wants her to remove it, but she wants to keep it--to remind her of how low she sank in the past. Pete and Nicole go off for the weekend and it turns out he is happy with it.

Two Guys, a Girl and a Homecoming

Sharon has a reunion with some catty old school friends, but she can finally claim to have boyfriend: Johnny. He repairs jukeboxes but Sharon exaggerates his job, which upsets him. It turns out he has put down Sharon's job as well, but it has a happy ending. A couple of Pete and Berg's old friends have prime tickets to a football game, which leads to one-upmanship by Pete, claiming he has tickets to one of the luxury boxes. To get to the game on time, Pete and Berg must clear out the Beacon Street Pizza and then buy tickets, which they buy from a scalper. The tickets turn out to be fake and they are arrested. They manage to escape as they try to keep ahead of their friends.

Sharon and Johnny are going well but Sharon would like him to be a professional worker and tries to change him. Pete is having trouble choosing an elective for his course. Berg interferes and puts Pete down to do sports-broadcasting. His first job is broadcasting a chess match; however, his sexist comment at a women's basketball match finishes this career. Pete goes for a job interview that leaves him doubting his commitment about wanting to be an architect.

Two Guys, a Girl and a Psycho Halloween

Pete and Berg throw a Halloween party. Sharon is dressed as a mermaid but Johnny goes as a cowboy instead of an angler and she is not happy. Berg goes as a mad doctor, and strange things start happening. They run out of beer and Pete goes to the pizza place for some more--and finds Berg tied up. So who is at the party impersonating Berg? This psycho Berg kills Ashley and Johnny with his ax. Sharon flees to the pizza place for safety, followed by the psycho Berg. In a mix-up, Pete kills the real Berg. At the end all is revealed about who the psycho Berg really is and why he is killing everybody.

Pete is having trouble getting an internship as he keeps mucking up the interviews. Berg asks Ashley to ask her father to give Pete a job. On the first day, he has sex with Britney, who turns out to be Ashley's sister and the boss' daughter. Berg is concerned about how this will affect his chances with Ashley so wants Pete to break it off, and they consult Sharon about it. Britney's father catches her and Pete in flagrante, suffers a heart attack, and ends up in hospital, but Pete ends up happy.

A friend of Pete, Berg, and Sharon is getting married and they are all invited. The bride-to-be is one of Pete's former girlfriends. Berg invites Ashley to go to the wedding with him. She says no initially, then relents. He dances with another woman to make her jealous. It works, but she has bigger news for him. Sharon takes Johnny, but she is also a bridesmaid and must wear an atrocious dress. At the wedding, Pete gets drunk and makes a fool of himself.

Two Guys, a Girl and Oxford

Johnny is driving a limo to make some extra money. He helps Pete get a job as well and Pete uses his charm on the rich, lonely women for extra tips. After telling Berg that she has a boyfriend, Ashley has been avoiding him. When they finally meet they have a passionate kiss. When he goes to her place later, he finds out that she has gone to meet her boyfriend at Oxford. Berg flies to England to find her, not realizing that there's more than one Oxford.

Sharon and Johnny decide to start a new Thanksgiving tradition where they are alone, but her cooking skills are not up to the holiday feast. Pete's grandfather suddenly turns up. Berg goes to Ashley's place, meets her boyfriend, and invites them to Sharon's Thanksgiving dinner, which becomes bigger than she wants when Pete and his grandfather also invite themselves. Berg tries to break up Sharon and Justin but has more success driving a wedge between Johnny and the ever-more-frustrated Sharon.

After a two-week absence, Ashley turns up at the pizza place wanting to be friends with Berg. Pete chauffeurs a TV host who advises people who have personal problems. Pete asks him how he should advise Berg to deal with Ashley. Berg decides to break up with her but she refuses. Johnny goes fishing with a friend, Shawn, whom Sharon hasn't yet met. Sharon is in for a surprise when she finds out that Shawn is a woman, and she has trouble accepting this. They all end up in a limo together with Pete driving, and they all receive some advice.

It's getting close to Christmas and Berg must work at the hospital and isn't happy about it. Sharon is put in charge of organizing the company Christmas party but it's not going well, and she's concerned that her Christmas bonus is quickly disappearing. A busy radio traffic reporter comes into the pizza place and Pete is seriously interested in her. He is offered the job of being her personal shopper. She is a few years older than he is, and to his shock she has a 10-year-old son; the first time Pete supervises the lad, he's injured in a minor incident with a cow.

Sharon wants to ask Johnny to move in with her but has trouble making the commitment. She finally manages to ask him but there is the problem of tidiness: Johnny is very tidy and Sharon is not. The pressure is on Sharon to keep the place tidy. However, it turns out that they are both slobs and all is well. Pete volunteers to look after Kaitlin's son Michael after school and help him with his math. He is unexpectedly called away and leaves Berg to look after him; Berg takes Michael to the dog track, which finally puts him on the right track with math in time for his test.

Pete and Kaitlin are starting to get serious--until her former husband turns up for a visit. Pete goes overboard and proposes to Kaitlin. She declines, after which they decide to cool the relationship. Sharon finds an old embarrassing photo of Berg and he is determined to find a similar photo of her, but she has destroyed every copy. Berg finds an old boyfriend who has the necessary photo, but Sharon gets to him first, temporarily thwarting Berg.

She applies for a new job but it appears that she didn't actually graduate from college, as unpaid parking tickets that kept her from graduating. Unfortunately, the course requirements have changed and she must now do an additional English subject. Sharon had given the money to Pete and Berg to pay the parking tickets but they didn't pay them. What did they do with the money?

Irene misunderstands Pete's intentions and thinks he is flirting with her. As he tries to set her straight, he only succeeds in making it worse. Irene is very smitten with Pete but he deeply upsets her. Sharon is still having issues with Shawn and thinks Berg would be a good partner for her. They seem to hit it off, but Shawn is really in love with Johnny. Shawn keeps trying to make Johnny jealous by kissing Berg in his presence but it doesn't work. It comes to a head when she publicly states her love. Johnny is confused and Sharon gives him an ultimatum.

A big storm is heading towards Boston, but Berg is more interested in women. A sighting of Ashley makes him turn towards the weather girl, Venita, on a local Spanish TV station. She is reporting from a local pier and Berg goes down there during the storm to meet her. They find refuge in a bait shop, worried about their survival. Sharon and Pete are determined to save them, but Berg doesn't want to be rescued, as he and Venita are getting along well together. Then Ashley turns up wanting to reunite with Berg.

Ashley returns and wants to reunite with Berg, but he has just started going out with Venita, the weather girl on a local Spanish TV station. Berg decides to drop Venita but Pete and Sharon show him that she is the best choice. Berg initially tries to date both, then wants to drop Ashley, but she refuses to accept it and pursues him. Venita makes the final decision and drops Berg. Johnny wants to reunite with Sharon, but she refuses because he kissed Shawn; Pete tries to reunite them and finally succeeds, though not without pain.

Berg is back with Ashley and he gives her a key to the boys' apartment; this upsets Pete as he wasn't consulted. Pete, Ashley, and Sharon end up upset with one another; Johnny tries to sort it out and ends up with everybody against him. With some assistance from Berg, they sort out their problems. Meanwhile, Berg is helping a friend who has a big fight coming up, but he turns out to have some brain damage and Berg unsuccessfully tries to stop the fight.

Johnny's three sisters come to the pizza place and they are all pregnant. Sharon and Johnny look after his nephews and it puts her off having children. Ashley fawns over the new anatomy lecturer, Dr. Staretski and he offers her a position as an intern. Berg is jealous when she goes to his house, so he follows her there--and, to his embarrassment, discovers that the doctor paints nude self-portraits. His intervention gets Ashley sacked. Johnny's sister Patti starts to go into labor in the boys' apartment and only Berg is calm enough to deliver her baby.

Barenaked Ladies narrate throughout this episode in song: Berg tries to get out of going with Ashley to get her nails done and convinces Sharon to go instead. Despite Sharon's reluctance, the outing with Ashley goes well and Sharon reveals some of Berg's secrets. Pete goes to a career counselor looking for a job and is offered a therapist job, but his first and last therapy session doesn't go well. He goes back and ends up as the careers counselor, which means quitting the pizza place.

Sharon thinks that Johnny is cheating on her because of his suspicious behavior. He tells the boys that he has taken on an extra job to earn enough money so that he can propose to her. Sharon's jealousy makes it difficult for him to get away so that he can get the ring. Berg is stunned when Ashley reveals that she has been married before. Pete reveals to Berg that he is in love with Sharon, and Berg convinces him to tell Sharon his true feelings, but it is too late as Johnny has already proposed....but did she accept?
