Three aging police officers working in support positions are drawn back to front line operations when their best friend, Xia, is killed on the day of his retirement after asking to tag along on one last drug raid. In the ensuing investigations, the three friends, Pan, Cui and Xu, uncover various criminal enterprises while also dealing with old grudges and grievances. The stories are told with flashbacks to their early days on the force when they solved cases together while Xia covered for them and kept them unified. The show also depicts the toll policing takes on the individual characters and their families, combined with doses of humor, suspense and lessons on duty, honor and friendship.
