An argument between Katherine and Peter escalates, resulting in her slapping him. Sandy witnesses the incident. Katherine seeks a favor from singer Jo. A mysterious letter shakes Katherine. Tony wants to discuss matters with Jo, who remains annoyed about his dishonesty. Wally is found alive but in a coma. Sandy urges Peter to report Katherine for the slap. Wally is airlifted off the ship to the nearest hospital. Matt offers an apology to Katherine. Ahead of his wife's visit, Katherine invites Captain John Anderson and his wife to dinner. Wally receives a diagnosis of an ulcer. Peter's request for time off leads to another confrontation with Katherine.

Captain Anderson learns from Maya about her affair and desire for a divorce. Katherine's stepmother, Marion, arrives. Matt desperately seeks a private conversation with Katherine. The captain's wife has devised a plan to falsely accuse him of an affair during the divorce proceedings to gain an advantage.

Following their breakup, Tony wants his ex-girlfriend, ship's singer Jo Bailey, off the ship. Captain Anderson lies about the state of his marriage to save face. Matt desperately searches for Katherine on the ship to talk with her. Susan secretly informs Arthur about Katherine and spies on her. Matt's intentions in getting closer to Katherine remains unclear - is he in love or does he regard her as just another potential sexual conquest? Katherine is visibly annoyed during a conversation with her stepmother Marion. Matt accuses Tony of being responsible for Peter's beating. Linda's latest prank leads to her meeting Katherine.

Tony is worried that someone has been gossiping about him to Katherine behind his back. A new singer, Gary Rae, starts work on the ship. Susan meets with Arthur. Peter is struggling, not helped by the presence of Gary Rae on board the ship. Marion chats to Tom Kelly on board. Gary berates Tony about a situation from years ago when Tony let him down. Charles tries to decide on an anniversary present for his wife Jenny. Captain Anderson considers retiring to spend more time with his children. Matt apologises to Katherine for assuming her lunch with Tony was a date. Matt asks Katherine to join him for dinner tomorrow at 8pm.

Susan phones Arthur's office from a payphone and gives him some information about Katherine. But Tony has overheard the conversation. A rumour has spread around the ship that Joe is responsible for Peter's black eye and other bruises. Tony promises Susan he'll keep her secret and admits he wants Katherine gone too. Joe insists that all he did was find Peter injured. Linda meets and bonds with Gary. Susan and Tony talk and gossip about Katherine together. Susan tells Tony what she has found out and calls Peter Katherine's Achilles heel. Joe tells Sandy that she deserves better than Peter. Matt has changed the time of his date with Katherine from 8pm to 10pm. It's clear that Susan has a crush on the happily married Charles. Captain Anderson has a problem with Matt trying to pursue an affair with Katherine. He is worried that it will affect the running of the ship. Peter and Gary come face to face in the bar and the tension is palpable as Peter announces that he and Sandy are engaged. Marion goes to see Captain Anderson and is introduced to Matt. Sandy is upset at Peter for the drunken announcement of their engagement. Katherine is determined to protect Peter from himself. Matt waits for Katherine, who is late for their date. Katherine gets Gary a job as a singer off the ship where he'll get paid more and he accepts. Matt goes looking for Katherine who is on her way to his cabin for their dinner date when he jumps to conclusions and accuses her of sleeping with Gary. Katherine slaps Matt and storms off. Katherine confronts Captain Anderson for interfering in the personal lives of the crew members, leading to a loud argument between the two.

Charles tells Matt that he mishandled the situation with Katherine. Katherine and Captain Anderson's argument comes to an abrupt end when they have to break bad news to crew member Charles. Linda steals food, claiming it's for an evening snack. Captain Anderson tells Charles that his wife has been injured in a car accident and is unconscious in hospital. Sandy and Peter argue about the drunken engagement announcement and she berates him for embarrassing her. But soon forgives him. There is no helicopter available to take Charles from the ship to the hospital where his wife is until later, which frustrates him. A passenger, Rachel Gibson, claims that her red handbag, containing an expensive ring, has been stolen on board. Charles' wife Jenny has died from her injuries, leaving him devastated. Captain Anderson apologises to Matt for interfering in his personal life and admits that he has other things on his mind that are making him irritable. Tony and Susan cause trouble for Katherine when they try to persuade Rachel Gibson to lodge an official complaint against Katherine for not acting promptly on her report of a missing handbag. Linda has overheard the conversation and informs Katherine of everything she has seen and heard. Katherine is now on to Tony and Susan, and has a plan to deal with them.

Katherine successfully stops the official complaint against her from leading to her dismissal. Charles goes home on bereavement leave to continue mourning his wife. Captain Anderson meets his wife Maya off-ship for a chat in a cafe and it doesn't go well. Susan realises that Katherine knows she's been plotting to get her fired. Tony isn't happy that his ex-girlfriend, Jo Bailey, is back on board as the ship's singer. Susan confronts Rachel Gibson to ask if she told anyone about the conversation between the two of them and Tony. Matt asks Rachel Gibson to have lunch with him and then Rachel mentions it in passing to Katherine. Captain Anderson is in a disagreeable mood. Katherine makes a shocking discovery and confronts Rachel. Over the years, Rachel has boarded several ships as a passenger and falsely reported the theft of a handbag containing a ring for the insurance money.
