Episode 1
A Token Attempt is the first episode of series 2. Following the death of Neil Pember, Lomax is still looking for the people who framed him, whilst also looking for his son, Steve. The episode opens with a visit to Lomax by the journalist, Robinson, with a problem. His Godchild, Billie, who has become estranged from her father and step mother, and he wants Lomax to meet her and try to help her sort out her life. Billie, unaware that Lomax knows both her Godfather & Father and has been tasked with sorting her out, joins Lomax on his boat and opens up to him about her drug addiction etc. Can Max save Billie from herself, or will she be a victim of one token attempt too many?
Episode 2
Max is roped into looking after a country B&B when the owner is called away suddenly. The B&B only has two guests, a married couple; the husband is on a weekend prison pass, and his wife is mixing with some dodgy characters, with a plan to relieve her husband of certain ill-gotten gains.
Episode 3
Max is working as a Barman at a quiet country pub...he thinks. He catches the eyes of the local ladies who wine and dine in the pub, and also the attention of the local thugs. The thugs decide to target the pub, the Landlord and his wife, but they underestimate the resourcefulness of Max to turn the tables.
Episode 4
Max has met up with his son, Steve and their having a bit of a reunion. He talked Steve into spending a week on the boat and they have sailed off downstream. Max encounters the local businessman and wannabe gangster, during a game of snooker. He later meets him again when Steve robs one of his bookmaker shops,.and tries to give the money back.
Episode 5
It is winter; Lomax, holed up in remote farmland, becomes a suspect in a rustling case. He meets up with an ex-cell mate, Granny Jackson, who gives him a lead to the real thieves.
Episode 6
Lomax is coming closer to the man who framed him. A Fleet Street hack thinks he may be able to help, but most assistance comes from Lomax's girlfriend, Maureen, who gives him the name 'Len Martin', but Martin remains one step ahead.
Episode 7
Lomax at last catches up with Len Martin, the man who framed him, causing his prison sentence and eventual disgrace. A chase ensues. Len Martin dies, impaling himself improbably on an old ship. Max's quest has failed. Series ends abruptly.
