Fifteen year old Alex Bowker is stabbed and dies whilst surgeon Jon Allerton is operating on him. The boy's father Dan, already facing redundancy, blames Jon for failing to save Alex and approaches him, inviting him to the funeral. This proves to be an uncomfortable experience for Jon when Dan makes an aggressive accusation against him, leading to a fight. Some weeks later Jon arrives at his hospital to find Dan is working there.
