A bus full of kids crashes and sends the team racing; Bash's life is upended when he is reunited with a woman from his past; with Dr. Bishop still unconscious after his stroke, Mags struggles to find support in her mentor's absence, and a new doctor takes his place.

Bishop got the board's approval to resume his job as chief and teacher, but given his reduced dexterity can't perform surgery anymore. Mark Novak refuses to step back and stay under Atwater, so he leaves. After a boat accident, the team manages to save mother and handicapped teen son Owen, but the father is on a respirator without prospect, Theo is at his wits end to get through to the kid, who depends on his father, mother admitting she never managed to connect properly, even blames the kid for the accident. Bashir must make up his mind about his relationship with Rania, who even forces Amira and him to start 'properly unpacking', it's time to embrace heir new home fully.

Only Bash steps up to defend Bishop at a strictly academical review chaired by deposed interim chief Mark Novak, who ironically is the only one who appreciates the countering of his claim that Jed's domineering style fatally paralyzed staff initiative, unlike Bishop, who insists to take the blows himself and told Bash not too, and the cowardly rest. Theo learns his wife wants a divorce 'having had enough'. Raniya Kouri is looking for her own apartment, but can't really afford one, unlike Bash who finally moves from Theo's into his own and invites her to move into the second bedroom, with him back on the couch. Figure skater Vincent Chang is brought in collapsed by his co-star and childhood buddy Trish Albrecht, who later crashes at his sickbed herself with a worse diagnose then his six moths rehab without training.

Bashir drives his Lybian friend Khaled to Toronto, learning only in stages the fellow refugee chose to take his changes with an optimistic immigration lawyer, but is in a process which may result in deportation. Theo is irritable as his divorce is made public and Bash's family's moving out messy, yet patiently works out the eating disorder of a frustrated knave patient. Immigrant engineer Anju Gupta, whom Bash released with minimal treatment for construction site injury promising rest before, returns with complications, having overexerted himself, feeling obligated to his family, while his wife wants him to be careful and return to India. A stubborn Samaritan feeling responsible for the patient she brought in annoys Mags, yet ends up inspiring the crucial diagnosis at last, alas just too late.

Episode 6

Bash helps grandmother Rita protect his junkie patient Dylan Carter from the police after being shot by a drug gang, even when he decides to flee both before sufficient recovery. Bishop supports him, but is shattered to learn the board expects him to select a successor and preside over transition 'ti preserve what he achieved in ER'. Theo struggles with his divorce as his wife suddenly applies for sole custody. Apprentice Jake learns the ropes, including claiming is own role, taking a page out of Mags's book, while the latter now even feels obliged to help a hospital cleaner whose hand probably has to be amputated partially after a switch to wholesale chemical packages and keeping that quiet even in surgery. Raniya claims Bash no longer actively loves her.

Bashir mourns a death in the Arab refugee 'community', sister Amira misses his 'ex' Raisha even more then he. Jake made it into Ma's bed, only to find her obsession with medical matters continues between the sheets, so he leaves, while she tells Jeb she insists to try part-time in cardiology. Bash and Megs defend invasive viz. riskier light therapy in the case of patient Kelsey Grisholm, who hid her condition ASL for her domineering father, Dr. Ray, whose bullying for intubation only determines her to chose against 'giving him full control'. Bashir finds out but is sworn to secrecy as Jeb is interviewing candidates for his succession, which he claims not to be inevitable. Teo's lawyer warns opposing his wife's claim for full custody will probably only worsen his case.

Episode 8
Sat, May 28, 2022
A loose crow, which the staff fails to catch, rekindles Bash's torture prison nightmares, while Khaled's attorney still can't promise an end to months of detention. The hospital, Bashir and Mags are served trial convocations for 'medical malpractice', Jed promises his support but warns they can't afford any more actions not by the book so long. Gay spouses Gary Campbell and Bruce Williams bring by their adopted baby Oliver 'Ollie' Campbell, who has complications on top of a cardiac deficiency, requiring scary therapeutic choices. June learns more about her dad's condition. The team helps teen patient Malik Lawson with an uncommon ailment, whose lover ran away from home to care for him and insists to donate a kidney which tested incompatible, her mother reported her missing. Jake learns to deal with people and stand up to divorce-frustrated Theo's inconsistent instructions and expectations.

Bashir must avoid any risks pending a trial and finds his Syrian kin colleague rather ingrate for his help, involving York colleagues for diagnosis at distance. Mags finds it almost as hard as the gay parents to handle baby Oliver's surgery sadly resulting in his demise, despite correct diagnosis. Theo suggests to Jake continuing the 'family business' may not be the right choice without the passion let medicine take over one's whole life. Bishop continues to look for a replacement, IC chief Mark Novak puzzles everyone with his fickle responses to Bishop-inspired suggestions to do more in ER rather than overburdened OR. One of Theo's patients helps to discover an ailment in another patient.

Episode 10

Bash is considering on offer recommended by the hospital lawyer to settle the malpractice claim, but Mags isn't even charged and Bishop convinces him they should fight to avoid a permanent stain on their record. Theo brilliantly spots and helps a deaf boy who turns out to suffer merely from heath-stroke, but frustrations over divorce and work cause him to snap staff, warned off by Bishop, and actually hurt his fist hitting the contractor who keeps him dangling about urgent repairs, notably air conditioning during a heath-wave. Power goes down in the entire clinic, rendering Bash's war theater experience -coming with torture nightmares- even more valuable, especially to improvise an amputation to save the life of a free mountaineer whose self-stitching infected near-fatally, then talk him out of suicide.

Rugby player Zeke is brought to Theo by his caring coach for a head injury after a foolish prank bet and underlying morbid thoughts, stemming from utter neglect by his ever-absent parents. Bashir enjoys taking Amira and, to her delight, Raniya, to a kids dance competition and stands his ground he can't 'live more' due to his torture prison trauma. Back in York, he deals with a MERS patient who can barely communicate 'yes-no' and her devoted caregiver Futz, who gets infected. Temporarily living at Bashir's, Theo hoped for financial aid from his father, preacher William Hunter, who surprise-visits him and promotes an alternative approach for the divorce. Even a friendly builder coming in with a prank-resulting nail in his head now triggers Mag's post-traumatic fear attacks. The head nurse helps her hide from Bishop, who has to accept the board's choice for Mark Novak as joint chief but still pushes his idea for more surgery in ER, against counterpart Dr. Aajay Singh, while Dr. Wendy Atwate feels passed over once too often and resigns.

Bashir's tormenting torture memories get worse, even during work, Bishop tells him to stop feeling guilty for what he couldn't help. Although threatened when he quietly steps up against by rude Dwayne Clark, who keeps insulting fellow bus passengers while demanding to be let out where there's no stop, Bashir rushes to the aid of the ingrate, who is hospitalized with life-threatening liver damage, and instantly insults his estranged son Dwayne Junior 'DJ', his only realistic donor, who thus refuses surgery, so self-regeneration is tried, albeit merely 1 success in 10. Theo is coming to terms with divorced life and treats a nerd patient who can't be helped to her dream excursion to a friend's med helicopter flight. Novak gives his blessing to the ER surgery project devised by Bishop, who asks his lover nurse to coordinate it as patient liaison.

Episode 13

Bishop tells Bashir to stop worrying about the trial as he's resigning soon, even offers him a key post at the new ER surgery facility, but Bashir can't deal with another case of 'guilt' for surviving like after the torture room. Doing a northern Ontario bush clinic shift, Theo has badly accident-injured Wyatt flown in with his self-inditing big brother Cory, and returns with them in the helicopter, but is crashes. A grandmother who collapsed bringing in her adult offspring is diagnosed cardiac terminal two day, which she spends on a festive goodbye and unsolicited advice, also inspiring staff to value life. Bash turned himself in to the legal department, but Bishop still manages to resign and get him a tree year contract, carrying virtual immunity. Novak won't succeed, external recruitment is preferred.
