When Antwanne and Teressa were looking for their current home, they thought they would be empty nesters. Instead, they became the hosts for family gatherings and long term stays. Their chosen home was custom built...but not for them. Their kitchen has shorter-than-standard countertops and virtually no storage.Their main bath has a sunken tub and a shower that's dangerous to get in. As she renovates the space, Hilary must navigate a couple that has opposing priorities and personalities that result in some unique design challenges. Her goal? Create a living space that can accommodate eight to ten family members, but also feels uniquely their own.

After trying to live in a cramped space, homeowners Alex and Parker contact designer Hilary Farr to turn this disjointed, outdated bachelor pad into a functional home. With the combination of three different living rooms, a small kitchen and a shared home office, Hillary quickly figures out exactly what this family both wants and needs. Hilary's design focuses on displaying the creative roots of this blended family while giving them functional spaces that help the home run more efficiently. When Alex and Parker blindside Hilary with an unexpected and expensive request, she's forced to adapt.

In addition to a busy work life, homeowners Justin and Josh have had a recent string of major life-changing events. Their family has grown from two to five with the addition of their adopted children and now the anticipation of Josh's mom moving in. In addition to the home becoming more crowded, Justin and Josh have become collectors of mid century furniture and decor to the point their home is cramped and cluttered. Hilary Farr is challenged with helping this couple organize and prioritize their living area while creating an in-law suite that gives Josh's mom both independent living, close to her grand kids.

After living comfortably in their three-bedroom home with their two daughters, Amy and Max opened up their home to welcome their niece and nephew from Ukraine. With an already tight floor plan and a shortage of bedrooms, the home has become dysfunctional, and these two new guests are sleeping anywhere they can find space. Hilary redesigns their home to accommodate the expanded family, creating rooms to give everyone in the household their own place to sleep, live and connect.

In addition to redesigning the family's space, Hilary must help them realize how their lives are hindered by their belongings and get them motivated to transform not only their home, but their way of thinking.After laying down the law with some tough love, she renovates the kitchen, office and bedroom.
