A conflicted Torchwood team is surprised to see Captain Jack suddenly return to their lives, and though he tries to come back as if nothing had happened, Jack soon finds that some things have changed since his disappearance. There's little time for explanations, though, as a mysterious stranger from Jack's past steps through the rift, and he's on a mission that only the Torchwood team can help him finish. But it becomes quickly clear that Captain John Hart is not all he claims to be, and as usual, Captain Jack Harkness has some secrets of his own.

To the Last Man

With the upcoming demolition of an abandoned hospital, there is a rift in time that could possibly destroy the Earth. It all centers around Tommy, a young soldier in World War I who is taken out of the hospital where he is being treated for shell shock and cryogenically frozen by Torchwood. Once a year since 1918, Tommy is unfrozen for a day and a series of medical tests are conducted. He and Tosh have become friendly in the few years she's been there but it's now time for Tommy to go back in time and close the rift. He doesn't want to leave Tosh and his new surroundings, even if he only gets to see it once a year and it's left to Tosh to convince him to return.

Meat

Conflicts abound when a truck owned by Rhys's trucking company is investigated by Torchwood... and Rhys is there to see it. The meat it carries is tainted, or is it even meat at all? Rhys does a little investigating of his own, and might have something to contribute to the team this time around. But he's no longer sure who he can trust anymore. And can Gwen and the team trust him?

Adam

Adam, an alien in the guise of a personable young man, is a 'memory manipulator' who implants false memories into the Torchwood team, leading them to believe he is an old friend. Gwen is induced to forget Rhys and Jack recalls painful memories of his brother before he exposes Adam. The team take tablets to restore their memories, in the process 'killing' Adam, who fades away.

Reset

Jack persuades Martha Jones to go undercover at the Pharm, a sinister research facility, which is experimenting in the drug 'Reset', releasing alien parasites into the body to 'reset' it and cure disease. She is exposed by the Pharm's head, Dr. Copley and injected with Reset before the Torchwood team ride to her rescue.

Dead Man Walking

Jack acquires the other Resurrection Glove to bring Owen momentarily back from the dead. However, Owen does not become fully dead again - even though his body is physically dead, some unknown force keeps him reanimated. And he's becoming less human...

Owen is effectively no longer a member of Torchwood. Jack as replaced him as the team doctor with Martha Jones and Owen is stripped of any responsibilities. Jack tells him just to go home. He's been dead for three days and has no idea what to do with himself. Tosh spends time with him but he's become cold and resentful. When Torchwood detects a strange and potentially dangerous energy source at the home of Henry Parker, Owen is the best candidate to investigate. Parker is in possession of an alien device that he thinks is keeping him alive. Afterward, Owen takes to chatting to a young woman he meets on the roof who apparently wishes to commit suicide.

Something Borrowed

Gwen's most recent encounter with an alien is going to make her wedding a memorable one. Just before meeting her girlfriends for her hen night, she is bitten by an alien. The bite seems inconsequential but she wakes up the next morning quite pregnant and appears to be ready to give birth. She has a lot of explaining to do - to Rhys, her parents, his parents - but she flatly refuses to cancel her big day. As the rest of the Torchwood team try to determine exactly what the culprit might be, there's a woman at the wedding who is very interested in Gwen's condition: the unborn alien's partner who is there to collect the soon-to-be-born creature.

From Out of the Rain

An old movie theatre, The Electro, has been restored and is opening as a museum. Ianto used to go there as a child and invites Owen and Gwen to the opening. Jack hears faint music, like pipe organ, at Torchwood. Then the movie projector somehow plays a different film than the one on the reel. Ianto sees Jack in the movie, in a traveling show. Then the projector stops. Two characters from the movie disappear into the night...

Adrift

When a local teenager disappears, Gwen is drawn into an investigation that reveals a darker side of Torchwood. Hundreds of people have disappeared without a trace, but why is Jack obstructing attempts to find them? The answer seems to lie in the rift, and as Gwen follows the trail, she makes a shocking discovery.

Jack, Owen, Toshiko, and Ianto track signs of alien life to an abandoned building, only to find that it is a trap as a series of bombs explode. As the team lies trapped in the ruins of the building, the scene shifts to show how each of them joined Torchwood. Jack's encounter with Torchwood comes in the Victorian era, when two female operatives bring him in to query him as to the whereabouts of the Doctor. Jack confesses that he is waiting in Cardiff in the hope of encountering the Time Lord. Although initially repulsed by Torchwood's procedures, he agrees to join after being told that over a century will pass before he encounters the Doctor again. He remains a member until the eve of the millennium, when he takes over Torchwood after the previous team leader murders the other team members. Toshiko is shown working in the Ministry of Defense, where she steals the plans for a sonic weapon. After building it she delivers it to two people holding her mother hostage, but all are captured by UNIT soldiers who take her into custody. While in prison, she is interviewed by Jack, who offers her a job, noting that the sonic device did not work until she built it. Ianto joined after pestering Jack for a job, only winning him over after the two work together to capture a pterodactyl in a warehouse. Owen encountered Torchwood after an alien incubates in the brain of his fiancée. Placed on leave after challenging Torchwood's cover-up, Jack approaches him, noting Owen's persistence in discovering what afflicted the woman he loved. After Gwen and Rhys are able to dig the team members out, they are confronted by a holographic image of John Hart, who shows Jack an image of his brother and promises to destroy everything Jack values.

Exit Wounds

When the villainous Captain John Hart returns to abduct Captain Jack Harkness whilst unleashing a wave of destruction and terror upon an unsuspecting Cardiff, it's up to Gwen, Ianto, Owen and Tosh to save the day. Meanwhile, Captain Jack Harkness is forced to face some demons from his past.
