Everyone is happy to be returning to Mrs. Jenkins? class after a school break, but Timothy is having trouble adjusting to life at Hilltop School without his friend Fritz. Since Fritz moved away, the two friends have been sending mail to each other, and in his last letter to Timothy, Fritz wrote that a surprise was on the way. Timothy and his classmates are very excited when they find out what that surprise is.;Everyone in Mrs. Jenkins? class received an invitation to Lilly?s party - everyone except Doris. She can?t understand it - hasn?t she always been a good friend to Lilly? After Doris is reminded of the times she treated Lilly unkindly, she?s determined to redeem herself and be the best friend that Lilly has ever had. When all of Doris? attempts at this fail, she goes home feeling dejected. Much to Doris? surprise and delight, her mother has found a party invitation near the mailbox.

Timothy finds himself in a real dilemma after being asked to settle the squabble by deciding which friend should keep the rock. Timothy comes to realize that there are some problems you can't solve all by yourself.

When Grace starts performing the trick for her classmates, Fritz is furious, presuming that Timothy blabbed! Timothy denies the accusation and a rift develops between the two boys that can only be mended if Grace comes forward and confesses how she learned the magic trick.

After some coaxing, Timothy presents his photos, and much to his surprise, everyone likes them and sees things in his pictures that he hadn?t noticed himself.;Lilly and Nora exchange a lucky penny and a pretty stone as a token of their friendship. After Lilly loses the special stone, she?s worried that Nora will be upset and no longer want to be her friend. In the end, Nora?s not pleased that Lilly lost the special stone, but reassures Lilly that she?ll always be her friend...no matter what.

After Nora hears about the great gifts that her friends bought for Yoko, she fears that her birthday present is no longer special enough. Nora is in for a wonderful surprise when she finds out that Yoko not only thinks her present is special, but also it?s something she?s wanted for quite some time.

With some encouragement from his friends, the budding scientist finds the confidence to go back to the drawing board. Doris is inspired to take ballet lessons after watching Grace dance in front of the class. A growing friendship between the two girls comes to an abrupt end when Doris embarrasses Grace by telling their school friends about an amusing mishap in dance class. Both girls discover that dance class isn't as much fun without each other's friendship.

Lilly decides to offer her favourite doll, but has second thoughts after the time capsule has been sealed and stowed in the school attic for the next generation. When Henry notices that Lilly is feeling sad, he retrieves the time capsule and allows her to switch the real doll, with a painting of it, assuring her that it's just as special a contribution.

Juanita has just moved to the Hilltop community and is anxious about her first day at a new school. She feels much better when mama offers to accompany her to Mrs. Jenkins? class. However, throughout the day, each time mama attempts to leave, Juanita is not ready for her to go yet. When it's discovered that mama is celebrating a birthday, Juanita and the class want to give her a party. In the spirit of making it a surprise party, mama is allowed to leave - Juanita is finally able to let her go.;Juanita is ready for the adventure of her new kindergarten class, but she's having difficulty finding her place with eleven classmates who already know each other. Mrs. Jenkins observes Juanita's struggle and explains to her class that they are all crewmembers on the Friend Ship. Timothy volunteers to be the captain of this Friend Ship and helps Juanita make new friends.
