Meanwhile, the local police begin the search for two escaped convicts, one of which is described as a "certified psychopath." The fugitives invade and take over the country home armed with a stolen shotgun. The female hostage is kept in an upstairs bedroom bound and gagged. She is menaced by a predator convict. An unexpected female journalist shows up in a taxi. The convicts monitor police transmissions through a stolen radio. The journalist sees the female hostage and overhears the convicts talking. Police discover two murdered patrolman, realizing the convicts are nearby. Armed police converge on the country home and capture the convicts. The doctor sneaks off to the upstairs bedroom, unties his girlfriend, substitutes another female body (his wife) for her and frames the convicts for her murder. On the ride back to the police station, the convict claims the body doesn't match the girlfriend in that the corpse has dark hair, and the girlfriend was blonde. The policeman don't seem convinced at first. The doctor quickly knocks out the journalist and hides her as the police leave. The doctor intends on giving her a lethal injection, but they are interrupted and arrested by a returning suspicious armed policeman.

Four months later, the last roommate sees the ad in the paper again, and determines to get to the bottom of the mystery.
