In high school, boys are experiencing their first taste of freedom, just when their sense of judgment goes haywire. 13-year-old Dusan can't resist getting in trouble. In one week, he ditches school, lies about it, brings a stink bomb to science class and claims he has a Taser for sale. Somehow new VP Blake Buemann has to get this menace under control. When no amount of detention seems to work, he's desperate to find something that does.

Gage thinks high school is a waste of time. He shows up every day, but rarely goes to class, preferring to wander the halls practicing rifts on his guitar. When principal Rick Keinlein lays down an ultimatum that Gage has to start attending class, teachers Linda Pawloff and Don Wilson are faced with the challenge of how to keep this promising and likeable kid from dropping out.

Alexis has anger issues. Last year, she was suspended from school for throwing a kid. This year, teacher Sabrina Holat and counselor Susan Lidster have worked hard to help her control her temper and focus on her grades. All that falls apart when accusations of bullying send Alexis into a white hot rage. It's up to new vice principal Blake Buemann to sort out what happened - and make peace between Alexis and her accusers.

Despite his autism, Austin is smart enough to coach other kids in Dom Comita's Bio class. But when English teacher Laura Richter assigns him a personal essay on how he's grown since coming to high school, Austin has no idea where to even start. With moral support from Dom, and after-class help from Laura, he struggles to put feelings into words - then read them in front of the entire class.

To fellow students, new kid Ryan is weird. An aspiring FBI agent, he comes to school everyday wearing a tie and toting a brief case. But teacher Teri Thorp sees something else: a kid just trying to find his place. Ryan makes every effort, signing up for a comical list of after school activities: the radical feminist club, the school production of Macbeth, and a talent show scene from Rocky Horror Picture Show. But he still never quite fits in. Until he meets a girl who sees the charm in his Batman belt.

Anthony and Jared are the smartest nerds in school - but also hopeless social misfits. So no one is more surprised then they are when they're both nominated to be valedictorian. The contest involves making a speech before the senior class. Jared goes for humor while Anthony goes for the heart.
