Episode 1
The Home Coming

Clutching the lamp base he has made for his wife Annie George Dobbs is released from a three year sentence to find nobody to welcome him at the prison gates. He seeks out his best mate,the womanizing Stan,for a drink,only to be told that Stan has moved on. In fact he has moved in with Annie,initially for company but now they are romantically involved. Stan fears that George will have him beaten up but George rises above it,telling his friend he must move out. Stan prepares his belongings but falls downstairs. Nobody believes this version and assumes that George had Stan worked over. However Stan's injuries are such that he cannot be moved from the house.

Happy Release

Troubled by events George wanders the streets at five in the morning,on his return finding that Annie is cooking Stan the last of the bacon for his breakfast. The final straw comes when,arriving home early,George finds the supposedly invalid Stan walking about but Annie points out that Stan did pay the mortgage whilst George was inside. Feeling worse than ever George takes a stroll by the river and jumps in to save a child from drowning. However when the ambulance man takes him home Annie believes that he was driven to suicide and feels sorry for him. She decides not to sleep with Stan that night so the men find themselves sharing a platonic bed.

Good Conduct

Annie is initially annoyed when she finds out that George had not intended suicide but is pleased when he is declared a hero and the pair of them have their photo taken for the local paper with the boy he saved and his parents,the Pringles. Unfortunately while this is going on the Pringles' shop is robbed and George's old adversary Sergeant Black pays a visit. In the event the real culprits are caught and George and Annie are invited to tea at the town hall with the mayor. Black is soon back to see then when the mayor's house is burgled. An indignant Annie sees him off after his last accusation but was she right to do so following Stan's confession?

Two Men in My Life

Angry George and Stan are spending the afternoon drinking and not looking for work Annie decides to stay with relatives in Essex,leaving them to fend for themselves - which they do very badly. An unwelcome surprise comes in the shape of escaped convict Tommy Hollister,who wants to lie low at the house before embarking with his forged passport to Portugal. Unfortunately,when Annie returns home earlier than expected Tommy assumes that she is the one night stand the boys have lined up for him and decides to defer his trip to Portugal.

The Trouble with Tommy

Annie makes it clear that she is not open to negotiation with Tommy but even so his presence in the house makes everybody very nervous and George tries - unsuccessfully - to rob a celebrity to get money to bribe Tommy to leave. The trio are on tenterhooks when Sergeant Black and his men pay a call and search the house and are mightily relieved to find that Tommy has gone. He has left a note explaining that another associate came round with the money for him to skip to Portugal and telling George to beware of Stan's intentions with Annie.

Three Into Two Won't Go

George is none too happy when Annie's friend Daphne tells him that Stan is paying for Annie and himself to take a week's holiday in Benidorm - so George decides to get his own back and make Annie jealous by telling her that he is spending a few days with Daphne. This certainly succeeds but unfortunately for George Annie's solution is to go to Spain with Daphne,leaving the boys to endure a cold November beset by power cuts.

Home & Away

Annie and Daphne are still in Benidorm so that when Stan meets an old flame,Yvonne,and her friend Brenda,he and George decide that the girls will prove a pleasant diversion in Annie's absence. Daphne returns alone,explaining that Annie has found a new boyfriend Desmond but it is not long before Annie,having found out that Desmond is married,returns,feeling contrite for her lapse - until she discovers that Yvonne and Brenda have stayed overnight.

Holy Deadlock

After an exasperated Annie has berated them for their idleness and lack of ambition Stan and George repair to the pub where the local Mr Big Vic Ames is throwing an engagement party. Envious of him and anxious to impress Annie George and Stan separately burgle the same house and are surprised to bump into each other. However when they discover that the house belongs to Vic Ames,who is coming up the garden path,they decide to turn themselves in,rather than face his wrath. Annie promises to wait for them both.
