The Young Marrieds revolved around the difficulties in the lives of several newly-married couples. There were Walter and Ann Reynolds (Walter was having an affair with model Carol West); Liz and Matt Stevens (Liz's mother Irene interfered in their lives whenever possible); and Susan and Dan Garrett, who were desperately trying to regain custody of Susan's son, Jerry Karr, away from Lena and Roy Gilroy.

We meet Matt Crane Stevens (Scott Graham) and Liz Forsythe (Floy Dean) whom have a date in a coffee house. Matt has just pledge his love for Liz which surprises her since they have only been dating for 45 days. Matt says that he would like to make plans for the two of them to get married. Liz feels he is moving things too quickly. The next day Matt is talking with his colleague, Walter Reynolds (Michael T. Mikler) at the office about his relationship with Liz. Matt does not understand why Liz is being so hesitant to move things along more seriously. After work, Walter arrives to his home with Ann Reynolds (Lee Meriwether) in Queens Point. Ann is preparing for their dinner party with Liz, Dan and their friends the Garret's Dr. Dan (Paul Picerni) and Susan (Peggy McCay). Ann asks Walter how Buckley liked his latest sketches, where Ann is the model. Walter feels Buckley has something up his sleeve which worries Ann. Once Susan and Dan arrives, Walter instructs them all that they need to show married life as a good thing to help Matt win his case with Liz. In the kitchen Ann admits to Susan that her fragile personality is getting the best of her as Walter's model and she fears his company will not Walter to continue using her. At the dinner party, Matt continues to pressure Liz about marriage. Liz tells Matt that she int so keen about marriage since her parents marriage ended in divorce. Matt explains to Liz that all marriages take work. Matt continues his plight and Liz finally gives in and says she will marry him.
