Howard has a hellish Monday. At work, a surprise party for his impeding wedding turns sour when a colleague absurdly claimed to be pregnant with his child although their one night stand was over a year ago. Next his bride accepts without consulting him to help her parents with the seating arrangements and show grandma the heirloom ring, which another colleague tried on, couldn't get off and ended up loosing down the drain. Alteady unimpressed father in law to be, a judge, gets a terrible impression of Howard in several ways, and ultimately the whole family.

Mel's sister Sophe promises to keep quiet about the locked-up dog when Howard offers relational advice, but that backfires. Meanwhile Dick proves remarkably understanding after confessions and discoveries. Alas, the family dog dies when Howerd joins his wall building at the cement mixer. Worse, after he swallowed the finally delivered heirloom ring. A visit to Howard's dad Ron and his new girl-friend proves painful and exposing in several senses.
