An old newspaperman is shot for trying to publish an article critical of Jubilee. Drum decides to take over the paper but must also contend with his father-in-law, a senator who wants to take his grandson from Drum. A sudden gold strike deprives Jubilee of his hold over the men and Drum decides to stay on with his son and run the newspaper in what is about to become a boom town.
