Thelma Thiel lost her son to a rare liver disease over twenty years ago and responded by founding the American Liver Foundation to promote prevention and treatment of the more than 100 liver diseases affecting millions around the world. Dan and Laura Grasso's son was born with the identical liver ailment but, thanks to treatment and transplant options, has embraced a new life thanks in large measure to the work initiated by Thelma Thiel.
