Ray Prentice has a shadow on the lung and has just three months to live. With an insurance policy about run out without a medical, he decides get a hit-man to kill him. When he learns the doctor made an error he needs Mark Saber's help.

A millionaire comes to Mark asking him to find out who he is - his memories date back only to his time in the Second World War, and before that his memory is a complete blank. Someone is blackmailing him.

Stamp dealer Ferrari is accidentally sold a Penny Black, with printers error, for well under it's market value. A desperate John Roberts tries to buy it back. When Ferrari is murdered, Roberts goes on the run and asks Mark Saber for help.

Kathy Lansing dies in a car crash. She had a large diamond set in a cheap jewelry. The police think she may part of a smuggling ring alongside fiancee Tom Weeks. Saber knows her sister Jean so he speaks to Weeks but he is also murdered.

Tim Shute loans his flat to his friend Fred Bassett, who is using it for an all night poker game. When Shute returns home he finds Bassett has been stabbed to death. Instead of going to the police his asks Mark Saber to find the murderer.

Mr. Poole asks Mark Saber to help his wife while he is on a trip to Paris. She has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and he fears she make commit suicide. When Saber arrives at their flat she is dead but it soon looks very suspicious.

Two thugs badly beat up Mark Saber and warn him off the Pickard Case. Saber has never heard the name. The police tell him Amy Pickard has committed suicide. Next day, Jean Pickard visits Saber and asks him to solve her sister murder.
