Forrest is still up in the air about his future in the contest, but he does get his stitches out and the healing is progressing nicely. The fighters continue their battle for the remaining spot in the middleweight finals.

Stephan Bonnar fights his close friend and training partner Mike Swick in the first bout. Forrest Griffin finds out if his cut has healed enough to fight Sam Hoger or give up his chance for the contract to alternate Bobby Southworth.

The blood spilled on the mat would go on to lay the foundation for the UFC on which it would build it's empire. --Spoilers from here on-- A 6 figure contract in MMA at the time was completely unheard of, and even though it required winning 9 fights over the course of 3 years to get the full benefits of the contract, Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar fought like their lives depended on it anyway. Over the course of 3 rounds, both men went to war. While the decision would go to Griffin, as well as a Scion car, a dirt bike, and an Audemars Piguet watch, both fighters would end up receiving a contract. 3 million viewers would tune in and their coaches would set a then pay-per-view record in the following UFC event.
