Episode 1

After having been apart for six weeks, Maggie joins Tom in Pelorus on the eve of the signing of the contract for the salmon farm, this the first deal Tom would have embarked upon outside his cutthroat family's business interests. The deal remains a point of contention between Maggie and Tom. While the farm is generally supported by the local community as a stimulus to the economy, Maggie will see first hand that it still does have its detractors. The morning after the public event before Maggie awakens but with her knowledge, Tom goes for a kayak paddle from the sailboat berthed in the isolated bay. Tom not returning within a reasonable time is when Maggie decides to call the police, the search and investigation led by Jack, his brother Stuart who is involved with the salmon farm project. While Jack cannot rule out such items as suicide or Maggie actually being involved in the disappearance, Maggie discovers something that shows she didn't know everything that Tom had being doing in New Zealand.

Episode 2

The official search for Tom changes from a rescue to recovery operation, which doesn't sit well with Maggie. Beyond what she found on the boat, Maggie finds something else on Tom's recovered cell phone that shows her that Tom was hiding something from her. Because of her outbreak at the party for the fish farm, Maggie believes that Pania may have some answers to the questions that Maggie wouldn't know specifically to ask. Esther has arrived in Pelorus, she the sole representative for the Cabbott family. That representative being Esther doesn't sit well with Maggie, as it demonstrates to her that the priority of the Cabbotts is not Tom himself but rather money. Esther's arrival affects Stuart who believes he could be in trouble. After traveling around in her own world, Hannah returns to town to discover things have changed in her short time not being connected. And Tom has made his way safely to his planned hideout. It being in its rundown state may not only be an inconvenience but more problematic for his survival.

Episode 3

Zoe has left Pelorus as quickly as she came, and despite that departure being without her saying a word to anyone, it isn't devoid of the fanfare that her arrival also had. As such, Maggie still has not learned her exact connection to Tom. What Maggie does eventually discover is the identity of the man with the yellow folder she saw Tom arguing with at the party. In confronting Stuart about the issue, they will have to find a way to overcome it to keep the fishery afloat, it which is already dead in the eyes of the angry workers. Esther, using her clandestine surveillance, also becomes aware of the issue, her only concern being salvaging the Cabbott family money and not anything about Tom himself which does not sit well with Maggie. And in Kath leading the recovery mission for what is assumed to be Tom's dead body, she makes another discovery that sets the town on its ears, opens old wounds between some, and brings others closer together, but in the end overshadows the recovery mission for Tom's body. Meanwhile, Tom has been able to get himself out of his precarious situation. He has to balance the need for immediate medical attention against his want still for people to think him dead.

Episode 4

The discovery of Aroha's body continues to place a pall over the town. That discovery not only brings DSS Pilau into town much to Jack's chagrin, but also places another possible perspective on the case of the presumed dead Tom. Zoe tries to leave town as quietly as possible to escape her primary problem, which may not be as easy as she would like. With neither Stuart or herself having the money for the environmental report, Maggie has to find a way to push the necessary buttons with Skelton for it, placing her directly at odds with Esther, whose sole mission is to see that the fishery does not proceed in the process of protecting the Cabbott money. And Tom is discovered by a man in the bush, Tom needing to decide what to tell the stranger and if he can trust him in whatever assistance Tom may need in his precarious health position.

Episode 5

Zoe offers Maggie a proposition in which Maggie would help her with with her financial predicament in return for something Maggie may want, that something especially important with regard to her own personal situation and Tom's death. Maggie slightly alters the proposition which will require Mitch's agreement. Esther tries to play Maggie and Stuart against each other, she believing that she may have an ace up her sleeve in the person with the loosest lips. With Pilau having returned to Wellington, Jack returns to his own priorities in terms of work, he in the process discovering some evidence. And the push and pull between Tom and Ryan continues, each knowing more than what has been divulged, which may be more problematic for Tom in wondering how Ryan would have access to knowing the goings-on in Pelorus.

Episode 6

Near their prearranged meeting locale of the shrine, Maggie and Tom reflect not only in what has been the three year plan to this point and the issues that led to their decision to embark on it, but the developments over the last two weeks in their separation. Up front about losing trust in him, Maggie, unspoken, puts Tom through a test to earn back that trust. Through that test, Maggie comes to a realization that she herself has not earned the trust of the people of Pelorus in lying to them every step of the way, for her the pinnacle of those lies in putting people like Jack and Kath at risk in their search efforts for Tom.

Episode 7

Maggie is able to make her way back to Pelorus. Beyond keeping her commitment to Zoe and by extension Mitch, Maggie has to decide how far she will go to make amends for all the lies she has told to those in town. Jack passes along the sad news to Pania, that news which brings DSS Pilau back to town. Jack and Maggie's recent goings-on collide with the intersection of the players common to both stories. Esther receives some unexpected help from a local. In the process, Esther has to fight her fears to get to the truth.

Episode 8

With Ryan's body recovered and brought back to Pelorus, and with Maggie and Jack having cleared the air to each other about the literal skeletons in their respective closets, Maggie decides that she will follow Jack's advice for himself and make amends, primarily to those in Pelorus who have placed their trust for their future in her and Tom and the fishery. Following making those amends, she plans literally to sail off into the sunset never to be seen by anyone in Pelorus or by the Cabbotts ever again. Others may have their own thoughts on the matter, Esther, being one of them, believing she close to piecing together what Tom and Maggie have done with one piece of information that she discovers as the key to making Maggie confess to what she doesn't know. As Pilau begins to question Jack about Ryan, Jack is uncertain if he will be able to hold his story together, which may end up hurting more people if he can't.
