Episode 25
Sat, Dec 5, 198122 mins
* "Fuzzle Trouble": While he and his fellow Smurfs are maintaining the Smurf River dam, Clumsy finds a seemingly friendly woodland tick, called a fuzzle, and brings it back to the village as a pet. Papa Smurf immediately recognizes the fuzzle as a troublemaker and orders Clumsy to take it back. Clumsy can't bring himself to do it, and when he leaves to return to the dam, it becomes apparent why Papa made his warning: The fuzzle eats everything in sight ... and multiplies itself rapidly -- into two, then four and then a lot more! Clumsy runs to Papa for help, but Papa immediately figures out what is going on when fuzzles begin eating everything in sight. Clumsy is ordered to take the fuzzles (who by now number in the hundreds) back to the woods; however, the fuzzles escape and immediately go to the dam for dinner. Meanwhile, Gargamel has created a Smurf tracker, whose aim is to detect the footprints of the woodland creatures; his and Azrael's stalking efforts (which include a brief encounter with an angry bear) are interspersed with the Smurfs dealing with the fuzzles. When the Smurfs are unable to ward off the fuzzles and concede defeat (as the fuzzles have damaged the dam enough to allow it to flood the Smurf village), Harmony plays a mournful tune. However, the fuzzles are hypnotized by the off-key "music," and Harmony leads the fuzzles away. A trap set by Gargamel -- a rope that sends down a large crate to imprison whatever is caught -- is sprung by the unsuspecting fuzzles, and the wizard and Azrael carry the box back to their castle, thinking they've captured the Smurfs. When they open the crate, they are left to deal with the hungry fuzzles. "Smurfette's Dancing Shoes": As the Smurfs plan a talent show to celebrate Papa Smurf's birthday, a woodland imp, wanting to get the Lost Treasure of the Ancient Trolls, is told by its guardian troll that, to claim it he must go to Dreadful Hollow and gather a feather from the fearsome Giant Vulture, fire from the volcano and the Blue Diamond -- or marry a fair maiden with a pure heart. Smurfette, wanting to perform a dance routine at the talent show, is annoyed that she has to practice and says it's "for the birds." The imp, seeing that Smurfette is the fair maiden he seeks, presents her a pair of dancing shoes, which gives her the ability to dance effortlessly; he does not tell her of the catch. As Smurfette thinks she's showed her fellow Smurfs a thing or two, the imp later comes calling for her hand in marriage. When she refuses, the imp causes her shoes to begin tapping, making Smurfette unable to control her feet and easy prey for a kidnapping. Papa leads a search party for Smurfette, who is locked up at the imp's castle, but just as they are rescuing Smurfette, they are captured by the imp's gargoyles. When Papa orders the imp to set her free, the imp tells the Smurfs that he will if they go to Dreadful Hollow to gather the Giant Vulture's feather, the fire and the Blue Diamond ... all before sunrise. Splitting into three groups each led by Papa, Handy and Hefty, the three teams each succeed in their missions. When they return, the imp announces he has no intention of giving Smurfette up and leaves with her, the feather, the lighted torch and diamond. But Papa casts a spell that frees Smurfette from her shoes ... and then he subsequently places them on the feet of the imp and his gargoyles. Smurfette realizes that there is no substitute for practice, and she puts on a great performance when Papa's party does take place.
