Karim's funeral takes place at the Boxdale mosque and Rookwood Cemetery. It's an entirely male affair and Bashir, as a Christian, finds himself ensconced in the spectacle of Muslim ritual, surrounded by his rag-tag group of boys, from diverse ethnic backgrounds. While Kellie waits outside with the women, she notices a suspicious movement in the background. It's Lucinda, the girlfriend of the Ahmad brothers' enemy, Sisi. When back at school, Tarek causes a commotion in the Home Economics room. As Bashir arrives to sort things out, he realizes that Tarek has taken the drug ICE and races him to the hospital. By the time Mohammed arrives, the danger has past but Mohammed is disappointed in his son and leaves Bashir by Tarek's side. Several of the boys come under suspicion but Bilic orders Kellie to trawl through the school CCTV footage of the night of the murder. After hours of combing, she finds vision of Bashir sitting on the steps of the library at 2am. It looks like he is waiting for someone. With that, Bilic takes Bashir into questioning to clarify some details about his whereabouts the night of the murder.
Episode 4

An increasingly defensive Bashir is questioned by Detective Bilic, but when confronted with the CCTV footage that Kellie found, he's left in no doubt that he's being treated as a serious suspect. The interrogation uncovers secrets about Bashir's past and current lifestyle and, unless Bashir can confirm his alibi, he's on very shaky ground. When Tarek learns that he has been excluded from the Hospitality work experience program, he feels betrayed by Bashir, and warns him: if he doesn't get to go on work experience, someone's going to pay. Bashir is terrified that Tarek is going to hurt George, then realizes the threat is to the Ahmad house. He knocks on the door and gets no answer, but he hears raised voices. Tarek threatens his father. Bashir urges Tarek to stay calm. Tarek screams at Mohammad to tell Bashir what he thinks; that the wrong son died. As the conflict escalates, Bashir steps in and sees Tarek now has a gun pointed straight at them both. Bashir desperately tries to talk Tarek out of pulling the trigger, bare his soul in order to save two lives. And in accepting the consequences, whatever they might be, he paves the way for Tarek, who must ultimately accept the truth: that he murdered his brother in self-defense. Meanwhile, Bashir has also confronted the truth about himself and initiates the beginning of a new relationship.
