Jules meets a young man Eddie and they hit it off. But Eddie has a problem in needing a place to to live and believes he and the doctor would be great roommates. Dr. Jules knows with his hours it's not realistic.

David meets a boyhood idol, a once promising novelist Bernard who's fallen on hard times. Against Jules advice David tries to help Bernard out but realizes too late that any money given to Bernard is used to buy alcohol.

A robbery wipes out Dr. Jules and his son offers him a loan which the dad is reluctant to take. After being talked into it Jules agrees to accept the money only to learn David has withdrawn the offer. Tempers flare as a result.
