They share a lovely home, their children are bilingual and she is a happy, contented mother. Her son Lukas is about to graduate from high school, and her 20-year-old daughter Anya has traveled to Paris to continue her law studies. Everything seems perfect. But the day after Hélène's birthday, family life comes apart at the seams. Anya is on the phone and frantically informs her mother that she is to be questioned in a murder case. Anya turns out to be the prime suspect in the murder of Damien Carnau, a wealthy heir who was found stabbed to death in his Paris apartment. Hélène takes the first flight to Paris to support her daughter and "clear up the misunderstanding". Matthias is unable to accompany her as he has an important operation to perform and wants to support Lukas with his school-leaving exams. Hélène's return to France brings back painful memories from her past. The reunion with her childhood sweetheart Vincent, who now works as a lawyer and whom Hélène hires as her defense attorney, also proves difficult.

Hélène investigates her daughter's surroundings and realizes that she did not lead the life she pretended to. She begins to question the veracity of Anya's statements. She also has to deal with her mother Élisabeth, who suddenly turns up at the hotel. Damien Carnau's filthy rich mother, on the other hand, won't allow Anya to tarnish her son's image. Matthias and Lukas only learn about the events in dribs and drabs and are hit with the full force of the slander against Anya via an internet platform. Lukas and Anya share a fateful secret that they don't want to confide in their parents under any circumstances. He doesn't know how to deal with this burden and jeopardizes his exams. Meanwhile, Hélène and Vincent leave no stone unturned to get Anya free, even if it means putting themselves in more and more danger - especially in their search for the mysterious second man at the crime scene.

Anya is released under judicial supervision. But the pressure from the media does not let up, and Anya continues to refuse to say anything more about the other suspect. Hélène now knows that her daughter is telling the truth and was with him before the murder. The three women, three generations now living together at Elizabeth's, try in vain to understand each other. Vincent slowly recovers from his violent fall. His sudden vulnerability rekindles his feelings for Hélène, who is still attracted to the handsome lawyer.

Damien had attacked her under the influence of cocaine. After so many lies, Hélène and Vincent can no longer believe Anya. Meanwhile, in Berlin, Matthias finds access to his son and uncovers more family secrets from the past. Plagued by feelings of guilt, he finally decides to travel to Paris to clarify the tricky situation and solve the murder case. His meeting with Hélène proves difficult - the "perfect mother" has long known that nothing will ever be the same again.
