Hélène is settled in Berlin and her family life is flourishing. But she sees her daily life upset when her daughter, a student in Paris, finds herself suspected of the murder of a rich heir. Back in her hometown and helped by Vincent, a lawyer but also a childhood sweetheart, Hélène has no idea that her certainties will soon waver... Does she really know her child?

They share a lovely home, their children are bilingual and she is a happy, contented mother. Her son Lukas is about to graduate from high school, and her 20-year-old daughter Anya has traveled to Paris to continue her law studies. Everything seems perfect. But the day after Hélène's birthday, family life comes apart at the seams. Anya is on the phone and frantically informs her mother that she is to be questioned in a murder case. Anya turns out to be the prime suspect in the murder of Damien Carnau, a wealthy heir who was found stabbed to death in his Paris apartment. Hélène takes the first flight to Paris to support her daughter and "clear up the misunderstanding". Matthias is unable to accompany her as he has an important operation to perform and wants to support Lukas with his school-leaving exams. Hélène's return to France brings back painful memories from her past. The reunion with her childhood sweetheart Vincent, who now works as a lawyer and whom Hélène hires as her defense attorney, also proves difficult.
