WIth the help of Jennifer's carer, Andrea, Hammer must find out who has kidnapped the girl and prevent the hand over of the weapons. More murders ensue before Hammer manages to get to the leader of the kidnappers.

Money has disappeared from a charity that Jamie supports and the chase is on to find the killers before she is killed.

It turns out that Hammer has been fictionalised in a series of books and Laura has been observing him as part of research for the books. However, people are trying to kill her. Hammer is captured and tortured so he will tell them where Laura is hiding. Their final goal is to find and kill the witness to a murder that is the subject of the next book. Laura, Harry and Pat work together to rescue Hammer.
