Charles Bradwell, a school janitor, is a man without a family to call his own. No wife. No kids. No relatives. Though this doesn't stop him from bragging to his friends about the large, happy family he has out in Indiana. After Michael Anthony provides him with his million dollar check, Charles later admits to his best friend, Woody, that all his stories about that happy family he has out in Indiana, never really existed. He only wished he had a family. Charles then hits on the idea of actually going to Indiana, the site of his fictional family, and find a real family to attach himself to. At random he picks the town of Rockwell, Indiana (don't look. There is no Rockwell, Indiana. There is however a Rockwell, Iowa) to travel to in order to pick a family he would like to be a part of. At a park, he runs across the Morrison family. Watching them talk and interact with each other, Charles picks them. He goes to the town library to do some background research on the Morrison's. Then goes to their house with an armload of presents and introduces himself to them as their "Uncle Charlie". The family is puzzled as they never heard of or knew an Uncle Charlie in their family. But still, they welcome him into their home, insisting he stay with them. Charles revels in the love of his new family, and taking part in the usual family fun like a picnic at the park. Still, it weighs on Charlie when he comes to realize that one simply cannot buy himself into a family. And he just doesn't fit in with this one because he never really belonged to it in the first place. They have a good life, different interests, and he's just interfering. He goes home to the Morrison's to let them know he is leaving. The family sadly tell him that they believe that they are not his family. that he must've made a mistake somewhere. They run down the list of relatives, four sisters, and point out that three of them were already married, but the 4th one was the black sheep of the family. And whom they know little about. Charles then falsely claims to have been married to that 4th one in Australia for about a year, therefore he must be their Uncle Charlie. Delighted, the family insists he live with them. Charles agrees, promising to take good care of them.
