This tale begins in the jungle with a man, William Maple White, running for his life in the dark and pouring rain. The beast pursuing him, whatever it is, must be enormous by its speed and sound. Just as the man seems likely to escape, he falls down a muddy slope and is quickly pounced upon. The man, a scientist, is brought to the camp of George Challenger, explorer and scientist. Although the injured man dies from his vicious wounds, his death is not in vain. In his notes are discoveries of a prehistoric world. Jump to London, weeks later, where the distinguished scientist George Challenger is trying to convince his fellow scholars at the London Zoological Society of the existence of the prehistoric world. It is here that we meet the rest of the eventual expedition - Lord Raxon, the hunter, the reporter Ned Malone, Marguerite Krux, an heiress funding the expedition, and the skeptical scientist Professor Summerlee. The expedition travels up the Amazon River and through the jungle following the map White's notebook. They are attacked by tribal headhunters and make a daring escape in a hot air balloon piloted by Ned Malone. A terrible thunderstorm causes them to crash on the eerie plateau of The Lost World. Here they meet Veronica, a beautiful young woman who has raised herself since her parents disappeared when she was just eleven years of age. Veronica's parents have left her the legacy of their treehouse and a lifetime of work on the flora and fauna of The Lost World.

Veronica, an untamed beauty raised in the jungle by her parents, has taken our group in and offered them shelter. After seeing what jewels the native girl Assai has, Marguerite secretly offers Veronica as a bride to Assai's father, leader of the local Zanga tribe. In exchange for Veronica, Marguerite will receive jewels and the group's passage off the plateau. The savage Apemen, however, attack the Treehouse, taking Assai captive and injuring Veronica. As the others look for Assai, Marguerite follows through on her plan but when Veronica realizes what's happening, Marguerite's plan goes astray and she herself is in danger of not only never getting off the plateau, but not leaving the village alive.

Running from the jaws of a ferocious T. Rex, our adventurers fall into a raging whirlpool, emerging in another region of the plateau where they encounter a tribe of Lizard Men, whose savage leader Tribune wishes to see Roxton fight for his life in the Pit. Marguerite steps in to tantalise Tribune while Challenger wracks his brains for a way to outsmart the lizard men and make their escape.

Episode 4

Summerlee faces certain death after being stung by a giant bee. Veronica enlists the help of an old sage to locate an antidote for the insect's toxic venom. Recruiting Roxton and Malone, the three head out in search of the cure, the nectar of the Queen Bee, which is found only in the heart of a gigantic hive. As Summerlee fights for his life, Marguerite and Challenger guard his sickbed from a group of Apemen.

Challenger, Malone and Veronica are searching for sulfur, in order to make more gunpowder, when they walk into a burial ground. They are attacked by warriors in black and white paint who capture Challenger. That night the group sneaks into the warriors' village...to find Challenger sitting quietly and drinking tea with a beautiful blonde woman named Cassandra. She and her husband had been part of an early expedition, also stranded and found by the warriors tribe twelve years ago; they were soon made king and queen there. She tells our group that going onto the burial grounds was considered taboo, and for this Challenger would have to remain captive for life. The only way they can save him is by going to the Cave of Fear and retrieving her husband's bones for burial. They set off, but soon discover why the cave is avoided ~ it's walls are covered in a hallucinogenic fungus, with a really nasty additional effect.

Veronica saves an unconscious girl from the river and revives her using CPR. The Christecs proclaim that Summerlwe is a witch. As Veronica escapes to summon help from the others, Challenger takes on the role of Summerlee's lawyer ~ if found guilty, both men will be burned at the stake Meanwhile at the treehouse, Malone catches Marguerite reading his journals. Malone begins a violent argument when she destroys some of the journal and Lord Roxton attempts to play mediator.

Episode 7

While wandering the plateau, Roxton is attacked by a young man, who bites him during the struggle. Roxton's infected with a disease whose symptoms are slightly bizarre ~ intense craving for blood, pain when exposed to sunlight, a powerful feeling of kinship with nature and ""creatures of the night"" - he is as a vampire. He runs mad and into the gothic mansion of Calista, a beautiful woman with the same disease. Back at the tree house, a young native man, Niko, comes forward, declaring his love for Veronica. He and Malone argue and decide to fight to the death for her; she is not pleased. Outside the tree house, Malone and Niko do start to fight, but quickly stop when Veronica tells them she will kill herself to stop them, and has a knife at her stomach to prove it. Niko leaves, but tells her he'll never forget her. Veronica remains mad at Malone for a while for trying to fight her battles.
Episode 8

Veronica finds an abandoned baby and decides to keep him while Challenger and Summerlee attempt to find the birth parents. Marguerite, Malone, and Roxton embark on a journey to find Jewels to fulfill a Druid prophecy after they tell Marguerite she is their reincarnated princess.

Veronica's parents guide makes a sudden appearance and dies in Challenger and Veronica's arms leading the explorers to seek out a hidden paradise, where Veronica suspects her parents might be. Once there, they discover the sinister cause for everyone's youthfulness.

Malone is hit with a poisoned dart and dies. Shaman Lento heals him and Malone is brought back to life, but Lento has been driven mad. His village sentences him to die but Malone rescues him. Summerlee is kept captive and will die unless Malone, Roxton and Challenger can bring Lento back. Back at the treehouse, Veronica and Marguerite have a huge fight, and fall into an old well after being chased by a dinosaur.
Episode 11

Tracking a stream, Challenger, Veronica, Malone and Marguerite run into a group of Vantu headhunters. They hide in an old mine shaft which leads to a cave-in. Veronica escapes, but the others are trapped inside. Near death, they are saved by the Garza, who are led by a blind boy known as The Oracle. The boy decrees the explorers must stay even though Challenger explains that the tremors are caused by a sleeping volcano waking up around them. Meanwhile, Veronica, Roxton, and Summerlee try to outrun the Vantu while trying to save the others.

Episode 12

Roxton saves Tayra from a Hikari warrior who is chasing her. Roxton discovers that the Tintas live in fear of the fierce Hikari, and pay them a human tribute to ensure the Hikari leave them in peace and protect them from other dangers. Roxton and Veronica teach them some fighting fundamentals and how to set up trap in an attempt to gain their independence. While Roxton, Veronica and Challenger are helping the Tintas, Summerlee, Malone and Marguerite are taken prisoner by a World War I pilot, Hans Dressler, who's still fighting the war after finding his downed plane. Malone fixes the plane while Marguerite nurses Dressler. Once Dressler wakes, he takes the explorers prisoner with the intention of killing Marguerite and escaping in his plane. Will the Tintas win their freedom and will Marguerite live?

Our adventurers find the ruins of an ancient temple and at its center, Challenger is amazed to find the crude etching of an atom. Curious to unlock the mystery, Challenger places a nearby crystal sphere into the "keyhole" of the atom. Suddenly a blinding white light engulfs Challenger, leaving him near death. As Challenger's friends fight to save his life, we see an alternate reality, where Challenger emerges from the light unscathed and with extraordinary powers. When the vicious Dirkon and his band of Slavers kidnap Veronica, Challenger easily defeats them. Unfortunately, after this Challenger's arrogance increases tenfold with his powers with murderous results. With Challenger near death in one world, and his friends dying in the other, the two worlds begin a collision course with destiny.

When Marguerite catches the eye of fourteen-year-old boy-king Gawain, he decides that she should be his bride and she is left with the choice to either marry him or die. Veronica fetches Malone and Roxton to try to free Marguerite and before long, they become embroiled in a power struggle between Gawain and Vordred, Gawain's Grand Vizier who wants to kill the boy-king and seize the throne for himself. While Marguerite tries to protect Gawain from Vodred, Roxton and Malone are sent on a quest to slay a T-Rex and events culminate with Roxton engaging in joust with Vordred to decide the fate of the Kingdom.

An old friend of Challenger's is discovered to not just be living on the plateau with his thought to have been deceased daughter, but he is also experimenting with human/ape hybrids. Veronica is captured and chosen to be part of his main experimental tests.

While out hunting with Veronica, Roxton accidentally shoots a young woman who appears suddenly in a flash of light. Returning to the treehouse, Summerlea helps Roxton nurse her back to health. Meanwhile, Marguerite, Malone and Challenger discover a tablet that points to a possible way off the plateau. After making their way to some ancient ruins, the trio are attacked by armed warriors but a stranger arrives to help fend off the attackers. As events play out for the two groups, the two mysterious new arrivals tell separate tales of what they are doing on the plateau. They both purport to be from the future and Marguerite is the focus for each of them - one wants her dead to stop her unleashing a deadly plague, while the other wants to ensure she returns to London.

Roxton, Malone, and Marguerite rescue a man from certain death, and soon make the startling realisation that the man is Tom Layton - Veronica's long-lost father, who has escaped his life as a slave working in the mines and is now on running from Kartas, a merciless bounty hunter who is stalking him. The group return to the treehouse where Veroncia is reunited with her father - but is this man really who he appears to be?

Deep in the jungle, Marguerite, Challenger and Malone come upon a half-buried, mummified corpse. They are shocked when it shows signs of life. They learn the would-be corpse, Ramses, is Egyptian royalty. He weaves a tale about a wonderful kingdom with untold riches and how he was to become king. He then enlists our heroes in a plan to reclaim the throne he says has been stolen from him by his sister, Nefertiti. After agreeing to help, the three discover there is more to the dispute than Ramses is revealing. He rules with an iron fist, enslaving his former enemies. He blinds his sister, and leave her to die. Marguerite, Challenger and Malone help her escape. The adventurers decide they must defeat Ramses by convincing the true heir, Nefertiti, to accept the responsibility of rule, and helping her regain control. Meanwhile, Summerlee is relentlessly pursued by a T-Rex after she mistakenly believes him responsible for the death of her babies.

Episode 19

After days of searching the mountains for a pass off the plateau, Roxton and Marguerite are camped for the night when they are taken by surprise by Norse warriors. Roxton is run through with a sword by the leader, Ursula. As he sinks to his knees, Marguerite is hauled off by the raiders. Near death, Roxton is visited by a mystical young boy named Osric, who offers a deal. Osric will restore Roxton's life so he can save Marguerite. However, there is a catch. Roxton agrees to the deal and Marguerite is saved. It turns out that Osric is the soul of evil who has been imprisoned on the Lost World. He reappears and gleefully informs Roxton that he must murder Bergen, an old man with a long-standing hold over the boys' manipulative intentions. Roxton refuses to kill the old man, but Osric has many deadly ways to get what he wants. Meanwhile, Malone and Veronica must defend their Treehouse from a band of cutthroats who will stop at nothing to take it from them.

Episode 20

Teenage Gideon and his mentor Davos are on a mission to fulfill the boy's destiny of leading his tribe of Moya out of the bondage of the evil Goths. Roxton and Marguerite come upon them, just as Davos is fatally wounded in a Goth attack. Before he dies, Davos charges Roxton with ensuring Gideon and the ""Star of Hope"" quarterstaff he carries, reach their destination. What they discover is that Gideon has been taken from his parents as a child, raised by monks, and chosen to lead his people from the isolated caves where they have hidden for a generation. The time has come for him to take his rightful place - but he has been betrayed, his mentor murdered. Roxton resolves to escort the boy back to his people. Marguerite reluctantly goes along. The trio meets up with Gideon's brother Lucas and they reach the Moyan elders. Unfortunately, they discover the Goths won't rest until the Moyans and their friends are dead.

Roxton is bestowed with the honour of safely ensuring the delivery of a young leader and a slain mans quarterstaff to their final destination. Along the way, the group must battle the evil Goths who seek destroy the boy's tribe, and Roxton finds himself taking a personal interest in seeing that the boy fulfil his destiny as the saviour of his people. Meanwhile, back at the Treehouse, Malone finds himself falling for Kaya, a beautiful young woman whose sudden appearance has Veronica struggling with more than her own jealousy.

Episode 22

The adventurers try to leave the plateau in their balloon but are shot down by some raiders. As they try to escape the raiders, Summerlee gets shot by an arrow, while Challenger, Roxton and Malone drop from a collapsing bridge into a river.
