Colleagues are less impressed, suggesting it's just another prostitute. The husband, a penniless blue collar worker, father of ore-teen son and daughter, is questioned as prime suspect, but cleared.

DI Les Hanley is promoted to an office as Wesy Yorkshire assistant deputy chief constable, reluctantly handing over field work, notably the ripper case, to his 'parachuted' former trainee-partner, who no longer takes his cues, so he fakes emergencies to slip from home to the station at night. Only he takes seriously a novel call for help, of a black harlot who survived torture and escaped.
