The body has been dead for days plus Earp believes the McLowerys would simply shoot an enemy. He believes a landowner Captain Rowland may have hanged the man and someone hung the body in the stable later. He sends Doc to check with Rowland while Old Man Clanton prepares to break the McLowerys out of jail using a stagecoach holdup to draw the vigilantes out of Tombstone.
