Jimmy has come from his dad's farm at Wichita to be a deputy for Earp. He tells Earp he is good with a gun but Earp tries to impress on him being a deputy requires more than a fast gun including maturity. Jimmy refuses to listen but Earp indulges him by going outside the city to see his shooting ability which is considerable. Instead of leaving town Jimmy returns to challenge Beatty. Earp is in time to buffalo (knock him out with his gun) and arrest Jimmy. Earp sends a wire to his father for help but his father arrives to support Jimmy. However, when Earp releases Jimmy to his father, Jimmy again challenges Beatty killing him in a fair fight. Earp has to arrest Jimmy and is forced to shoot him in the wrist ending his gunfighting days.
