Recently decorated for bravery police sergeant Nancy Devlin leaves her lover Kevin following an urgent nocturnal call to meet a friend's father, Frank Lesaux, who is killed in a shoot-out which leaves Nancy injured. Next day she gets a text threatening her own life, which is awkward as D.I. Michelle Newman has asked her to investigate Frank's murder, paired with arrogant Sean 'Gunner' Martin. Whilst the police identify Frank as a large scale drug dealer Nancy reconciles with his daughter Hayley but fails to stop his mistress and mother of his son Delia Bradley from a murder attempt which puts her in a coma. Following another phone call Nancy goes to meet Hayley, whom she believes knows who killed her father, but collapses on the way.
