Episode 1

Blue and the son of a local tribal leader Natchez have their eye on a wild stallion. Blue ropes the horse after the stallion escapes the Indian boy's hands. They fight over the horse but a war threatens to erupt when Indian braves and ranch hands appear. Natchez reluctantly acknowledges Blue as the owner to prevent a war. Blue over time with carrots and sugar breaks and trains the stallion. The Indian boy steals the horse while Blue and the ranch hands are at camp eating. Blue tracks the boy and horse for three days as Big John confronts Natchez who is unaware of the theft. Natchez finds and confronts his son but the braves back the son. Blue back on the hunt with a fresh horse finds the boy and horse resulting in a fight between them. Natchez warns Big John as the ranch hands go after Blue. Big John and Natchez ride together to stop the fight as the men on both sides prepare to fight. With no easy solution in sight, Big John asks Natchez if his son will agree to let the stallion select the owner it wants. He and Blue agree with each trying to entice the stallion to come to them but the stallion selects a third option to which both boys reluctantly agree.

While looking for stray cattle, Buck and Blue find an Apache camp with two orphaned boys and their dead parents. After feeding the boys, they find the boys following them home. On the way a small group of Pima Indians attack them and the boys. As they reach the ranch house, the two boys have morphed into four boys. The oldest of the boys tells them he is the grandson of Geronimo and they think Big John is the Apostle John. They wash and feed the four boys but over time the four increase to ten as more arrive. Big John knows the ranch is in danger as the Pimas may attack to kill the children while Geronimo may think Big John has kidnapped the children. With time up, Big John and some men ride out to find Geronimo. Geronimo knows he has the children but believes he is holding them for ransom. When they return to the ranch, the children have disappeared forcing Geronimo to put a deadline on returning the children. Eventually they find the children hiding but after they are returned to the ranch, the Pima attack. Geronimo sees the attack and comes to the aid of the ranch hands to drive off the Pima. He returns to take the children who will be missed by the hands including even Big John.

At Tucson, Sam receives a letter that causes him to leave in anger. That evening he returns to High Chaparral. The other men, knowing there is a problem, try to talk to Sam but he keeps the issue to himself. Later, he says he must return home to kill his good friend. Between his answers and information from his brother Joe, they learn he has a Mexican wife and daughter who left him because of a dispute over property between her father and his foster father Ben Lynch. Sam admits his chances are not good. The men, one by one, decide to follow Sam to support him. At his hometown his Mexican father-in-law revels in the fight to come between Sam and Ben's son Tom, who killed Sam's daughter. Tom, unlike his other brothers, has grown into a cocky young man who overrates his gun skills. Sam and his wife Trinidad reconcile, to the dismay of her father. With the Lynch family on one side and the High Chaparral men on the other, Big John talks to Ben, with both hoping to avoid bloodshed. Sam, realizing his life can be better with Trinidad, decides to forgo a duel with Tom. However, the cocky Tom has a different view.

The women of Oracle lead by the teetotaler teacher Miss Frances O'Toole shut down Oscar Hipple's saloon by kicking everyone out and destroying it. Buck doesn't hit it big prospecting but does win big in a poker game so Oscar sees an easy mark. He sells his closed saloon to Buck telling him a tornado damaged it. Big John and his men greet Buck as he arrives. When they learn he bought the saloon, they can't conceal their laughter at the upcoming confrontation. As Buck begins the repairs, he hires Warren Bates a painter from the east to help repair the damaged paintings, etc. Buck learns Warren was to marry Frances after hitting it rich. He didn't strike it rich and when she arrived unannounced he was drunk leading to her movement against alcohol. Frances and the woman try to enlist Victoria's help to no avail. When they strike the saloon, Buck unlike Oscar has them all arrested. All the women agree to stop the protest in return for being released except Frances. That leaves it to Buck to help the ailing Frances to mend her ways and relationship with Warren.

Buck and Manolito lead a group of hands to town to buy supplies. Buck needs 44 ammo but two mountain men bought out the store's supply. Buck telling them he is short of ammo tries to buy some from the men but they refuse. The next day Buck leads the men with the pack mules and supplies back to the ranch. The mountain men were buying supplies for El Lobo who has escaped Yuma prison and his gang of men. El Lobo was jailed when Manolito had him arrested. The men try to convince El Lobo they should steal the pack train but he resists the idea until he hears Manolito is with the group and Pilar, his woman, wants new clothes. He poisons the waterhole the train is going to forcing the pack train to change routes and be short of water. El Lobo traps the group in a box canyon planning to let the heat and thirst do the rest. The men short on ammo and water are hurting when Buck has an idea. They are able to get the dynamite on a pack mule. He rigs a bow and arrow using the strings from Blue's guitar and local wood.They kill and run off the gang but Manolito is able to capture his old friend El Lobo but makes a surprise decision.

Buck and Sam find a man shot in the desert with a money belt containing $5,000. Before he dies, he tells Vaquero who grew up with him that the money is to buy their hometown village from Don Sebastian Montoya and that an Apache shot him. However, Buck realizes the bullet is from a revolver which Apaches don't carry. Blue accompanies Vaquero to the village to give them the money while Big John, Victoria, and Manolito visit the Don to buy cattle. Victoria becomes angry with her father for not dealing honestly with Big John as does Manolito. Meanwhile a man saying is an investigator for the stage line says he is hunting a gang that stole $5,000 from a stage and he wounded one of the men. Buck suspicious of the man takes him to the village. The villagers refuse to turnover the money and the Don tries to back out of his agreement for the village as well. The rest of the gang trailed Buck to the village and attack to take the money. The leader of the gang is captured and forced by Buck to tell the truth. The stage agent was involved and the money is not stolen putting the Don back on the hot seat with Victoria.

Big John sends Buck, Blue, and Manolito to find and meet Ebenezer Binns who he has asked to open a newspaper in Tucson. They find "Eben" just as two bandits under orders nearly kill him. Big John hopes a paper will help persuade the Governor to send troops to clean up the criminal element in Tucson allowing a future railroad to be built through it. Buck, Manolito, and Pedro stay with Eben in Tucson to protect him. The saloon owner Pogue who protects criminals from the law has Judson a man on the run try to kill Eben but he fails. Eben against all advice goes to interview Pogue. He immediately recognizes him as Joe Fox who he helped run out of Kansas and is still wanted there. Realizing there is sure to be an attack now, Buck rides for more help while Manolito and Pedro try to protect Eben. As expected the "calvary" arrives in time to join in the fight to save the paper. The stoic Eben himself stops a man from shooting him. Eben's second edition is the story of Joe Fox's capture.

Victoria is returning home by stage from visiting her father. James and Meg Forest are on the stage with her. Comancheros attack and the chase ends when the stage overturns. Everyone appears dead as the Comancheros take the money from the strongbox. Victoria awakens to find everyone dead except her and James Forest. She buries Meg and the two stage line employees. Forest goes in and out of consciousness with bouts of amnesia, thinking Victoria is Meg at times. Along with a little water and a horse that returns, the two leave for Tucson. Because they lost the stage route, they become lost. Forest slowly regains his strength and eventually his memory. Victoria learns during one of his bouts that he has come to Tucson to kill Big John, with whom he grew up. They fought on opposite sides in the Civil War, where Big John took Forest prisoner, subjecting him to two years in a POW camp. Big John and Manolito decide to meet the stage before it reaches Tucson, but when it is late they find the stage and track the pair across the desert but the couple has been captured by the Comancheros who want ransom for her.

All of their attempts to bring supplies to the High Chaparral have failed due to the Apaches led by half breed Chio stealing them. In the latest raid Blue is injured but they capture Chio but lose the supplies. Nearby a stagecoach was attacked and burned. Manolito investigating it for survivors finds only a girl Tina Granger who was thrown from the stage and missed by the attackers. He convinces her to go to the ranch where she is well treated and Chio is tied up. Manolito tells Tina about the torture Chio has used against prisoners. That night Manolito suggests bringing in supplies via pack train over a remote route. Tina frees Chio and lets him escape after telling him about Big John's plans. The group takes Tina with them to Tucson but she escapes while they camp. The men continue on to buy supplies and start the return trip. In reality Tina is Chio's daughter and she has returned to their home. Chio returns and forces her to tell the route they are using. Chio and the Apaches capture the ranch hands and new supplies. When Tina sees them being tortured to death, she stops it leading to a final showdown.

As they are under attack by Apaches, Big John and his men hear the bugle of the Cavalry coming to their aid. The Tenth Cavalry made up of Buffalo Soldiers has been sent to Tucson at its request to to declare marshal law and take control of the town. Grateful for the rescue the Cannon group escorts the group to Tucson providing both aid and support to the soldiers even though many including Buck fought for the south in the war. There is a tinge of racism in town against the soldiers especially from Hilliard and his men who have a protection racket sucking money from the businesses there. The white officer is recalled so the troop is left under the control of their Sgt. Major Creason. Hilliard hires MacAteer to hire men to run the soldiers out of town. He agrees hiring about 40 men to go against the 40 man troop. Although Big John offers help, Creason states they can handle rounding up the outlaws but it would be helpful for the locals to man the trap in Tucson. Larrabee scouts the outlaws learning their plans. The men then perform text book maneuvers to herd the outlaws into Tucson where they are captured.

As Buck, Blue, and Manolito prepare to leave for Tucson, Victoria announces the next day is Thanksgiving and she would like a turkey. She invites the hands who love the idea but Big John tells her he will not deal with the only source of them who is a squatter on his land. In Tucson Buck and Blue try to win a turkey shoot but lose to a friend until Manolito wins it trying to get enough money to buy a girl a dress. Big John has second thoughts so he visits Fergus MacLeish to buy a turkey but only one is left which the MacLeish family is keeping. Meanwhile Manolito's girl's fiancé steals the Cannon buckboard along with the turkey. Big John and his men spot him driving it in the desert and as they chase it the turkey is bounced loose. A family with three hungry kids find it. The men also find it but decide to leave it with the family. Meanwhile, an Apache group steals the MacLeish turkey and they accuse Cannon of stealing it. Pedro still looking for the loose turkey finds the turkey taken by the Apaches and trades his broken rifle for it. At the ranch house the next day, turkey is on the table but as everyone arrives including the Apaches it becomes a traditional gathering of everyone.

Three convicts have escaped from Yuma prison. One, Kolos, is a foreign national who does not speak English well but thinks the other two men are his friends. They come across a gypsy sheep herder's camp where they steal food and horses. A girl spots them and tries to run away but encounters Mitch. She trips and falls over a cliff. After the fall kills her, Mitch tells Kolos that under American law he is to blame. The three find Big John camping. Using Kolos as a distraction, they knock Big John out and trade Kolos's prison stripes for Big John's clothes. Big John is left to be found by the herders to take the blame for the girl's death. Kolos is sent to Tucson to collect $15,000 they hid in a Wells Fargo safety deposit box before going to prison. Buck, Manolito and Blue spot Big John's horse and Kolos in Big John's clothes. They track down what happened to Big John but Mitch and Cable return to take the key from Kolos to retrieve the money. The two are captured at Wells Fargo. The group leaves to rescue Big John who Manolito found with the herders. Buck has to work through the language barriers to rescue Big John and yet return the stolen money.

Episode 13

Each year the priest Padre Sanchez collects funds to help pay to return a religious statue that was taken long ago from the church. He tells the faithful how the statue has been traced back to the US. After the most recent collection a local man Gillis attempts to steal the money collected over time but finds the chest full of iron. Sanchez confronts him but Gillis realizes the priest has spent the money collected in previous years. Sanchez says he used it for the poor. Victoria asks Sanchez to come to the ranch where Big John tells Sanchez he will make up the 8000 pesos needed to return the icon. Sanchez goes to New Orleans where he has a fake made. Upon hearing he is returning but worried about its safety, Buck and Manolito meet Sanchez to escort him. Along the way Gillis sees them. He has his girlfriend Mavis ask for a ride to a nearby town to help him and his partner Maitlan steal the icon. Between the respect shown her by Manolito and her desire to change her life, Mavis changes sides. Upon returning, Sanchez confesses to the people what he has done but led by Manolito and Victoria the statue is still accepted.
Episode 14

Blue, Manolito and Joe are putting out salt for cattle when Blue, alone, encounters a black Army deserter Graham Jessup. He tells blue he needs supplies and was mistreated by a Colonel. On his return to the ranch house, Blue tells Manolito about the man. Otherwise, he keeps it a secret and decides to return with supplies for Jessup. However, when he returns, the deranged Jessup takes Blue hostage expecting him to lead him to Mexico. When they reach the edge of the Apache lands, Jessup forces Blue to continue on. In his crazed state he doesn't believe there are any Apaches in the area. At the ranch Sgt. Williams arrives with a patrol looking for Jessup who killed the Colonel. Once they hear the story, Manolito and Buck who thought Blue was up to something tell what they know. Big John and Buck go with the Army patrol to find Blue. They find Jessup has forced Blue to take him into the Apache Forbidden Lands where no non-Apache is to go. Jessup has shot an Apache who are now attacking them. Buck is forced to take action to save Blue.

The Cannon family and ranch hands go to Tucson to celebrate the peace with the Apaches that has finally come to the territory. Everyone is in a festive mood including Victoria when she spots a childhood friend Nickanora which makes Big John a bit jealous. The men are having a good time especially at Blue's expense until Buck spots several outlaws from the Tombstone area at a saloon. At dinner that evening they learn Nickanora is the leader of the outlaws who have come to collect scalps at $200 a piece. Nickanora contends the Apaches are the reason his family lost their land holdings. The outlaws leave Tucson the next day causing Big John to take his men after them. He has Pedro drive Victoria to the ranch with Manolito as an escort. On the way they encounter a lone Apache girl who says her parents were killed and scalped. Manolito realizing the outlaws are near goes after them alone but is captured by Johnny Ringo. They use him as a hostage when Big John's group arrives. Since gunfire will draw the Apaches, they decide to let Buck and Nickanora fight to see who wins. Buck wins but Johnny has to kill Nickanora who tries to knife Buck as the Apaches surround them all.
Episode 16

Sean McLaren has recruited Manolito to help striking miners convince Big John to write the owners of the mine to make it safer. Big John is sympathetic but initially refuses to help until Victoria weighs in with her opinion. Manolito and Buck are with Sean and his men in a saloon when the mine supervisor Gregg enters with his "guards". He is trying to break the strike but tells the men Sean and all the Irish are not welcome back causing a fight. Sean and Scanlon who started it are arrested and sentenced to the chain gang by the one sided Justice of Peace Russ Belding. Manolito and other miners break them out. The men and other miners hide out with Manolito providing beef while Big John and Victoria supply the families and Big John decides to write the letter. Scanlon interrupting Gregg stirring the town people up against the miners is killed by Gregg's guards. Sean and Manolito decide to blow up the buildings at the mine when Sean receives word about Scanlon's death. Sean ratchets things up by killing Gregg and deciding to blow the mine which would affect homes. Manolito enters the mine to stop Sean but it may blow up in his face.

Lucien Charot runs a freight line into Tucson. He has been faking attacks by the Apaches to allow him to raise the prices of the goods he brings in with the aid of some local businessmen. Big John is fed up and after Charot doubles the prices on his last trip he decides to have competition by having a line come in from El Paso through the Apache lands with whom he has peace. Charot keeps pushing the fact there are Apache attacks by having an Apache lance found at the site of High Chaparral cattle killed. To counteract this news, Big John makes a personal trip into Apache land to meet with Cochise who agrees to the freight line. When this doesn't stop Big John, Charot has a local rancher burned out. This causes the local support for the new line to die so Big John and Victoria agree to bring a stagecoach through themselves. Charot tries to take out the coach but Big John's men drive off the attack and leave Charot a choice between Cochise and the law in Tucson.

Watching a wild stallion on the ranch gives Manolito the itch to get away from the constraints of the ranch. He gathers his things and heads to Mexico where he enjoys the company of wine and women. His old friend/enemy El Lobo arrives with his gang who are wanted. Shortly afterwards two women and a man arrive who are members of the Salvation Army on the way Tombstone. They have been robbed - by El Lobo. Manolito recovers one of their musical instruments but Manolito is forced to provide funds for them to leave as El Lobo has already spent their money. They ask Manolito to guide them to Tombstone but he only leads them back to the US where he heads to Tucson. Lost, the trio follows him to Tucson where he must once again befriend them with a place to stay in his room. Buck looking for Manolito barges into their room waking up the sleeping women thinking they are Manolito. Buck pushes Manolito into helping the women gather funds and guide them to Tombstone. Of course on the trip the trio of musicians calm the Apaches who in turn run off El Lobo and his gang. At the end Buck ends Manolito's free life style with a donation.
Episode 19

Scouting Apaches nearby, Blue spots a blonde woman. Blue wants to free her but Buck and Manolito stop him. Buck says she is now Apache and he does not want to break the treaty Big John has with the Apaches. The next day Blue secretly goes to retrieve the girl. He is able to reach Sarah who wants to leave the tribe and husband Santos. Blue gets her on his horse but as he is attacked by the guards, he sets the horse free with Sarah on it. Buck and Manolito upon catching up with her are told Blue is dead. They return to the ranch to tell Victoria what happened but Big John is away. Sarah tells Victoria she does not want to return to Santos. The Apaches leave a symbol at the ranch indicating Blue is alive so the men leave to find Blue. Buck alone is allowed to see Blue and told he has three days to return Sarah. He returns to the ranch with the intention of returning Sarah to Santos the next day. However, that night the squaw Terza who wants Santos and dislikes Sarah frees Blue. Santos arrives at the ranch wanting Sarah but now Buck is not willing to return her. However, his belief that Sarah is now Apache proves to have meaning, when Sarach hears Santos profess his love for her.

A spat over lack of attention results in an irate Victoria moving back home with her father leaving Big John sulking and the rest of the men missing her presence. The bored and lonely Don Sebastian Montoya is surprised by the ravishing widowed Countess Maria Kettenden von München from Mexico city who is returning to Europe. As he prepares to court her, however, Victoria arrives putting a damper on activities. Manolito decides to return home as well to see if he can repair the damage between Victoria and Big John. Upon his arrival he too is smitten with the Countess starting a contest between him and his father for her time and interest. The Countess is not interested in a romance but she proves to be apt at giving Victoria sage advice on relationships. Wanting Victoria back, Big John travels to her with the intent to return with his wife but the sharp Countess steps in to tell Big John that a woman wants to feel wanted and courted which did not happen with his quick marriage to Victoria. Her well timed advice smooths over the spat. The Countess leaves with Manolito in tow but the Don happy to have his solitude.
Episode 21

A sergeant erroneously tells Stinky Flanagan to shoot his camel who is holding up the Army. Flanagan has no heart to kill Tillie so he releases her but she returns after scaring Buck's horse forcing Buck to walk to Tucson. Buck was sent to town with $40 to buy a mule. In a saloon Buck meets Flanagan who has deserted the Army with Tillie. He tells Buck how useful camels can be in the desert so Buck buys Tillie instead of the mule and returns with Tillie and Flanagan with the hope Flanagan can work on the ranch. Problems start from the beginning when the horses all react poorly to the camel and later when Tillie is scared by cattle. Flanagan causes more problems when he intrudes on a date for which Manolito is late. Flanagan decides to leave with Tillie leaving the Cannon's with no mule or $40. An angry Manolito catches him as they hear an Army retreat bugle call. Flanagan and Manolito follow the sound. Apaches are attacking the Army and encircling them. Flanagan rides into the attack causing the Apache horses to scatter in fright. Flanagan is accepted back by the Army and leaves the Cannons with a questionable mule.

Episode 22

Big John promised the elder Sandoval that if his people move to an Indian reservation, they will be treated properly by the Indian Agent Captain Surtee and his people will no longer go hungry. The Cannons prepare a feast for the tribe to celebrate the arrival of Surtee. However, upon arriving Surtee snubs Sandoval in front of his people by leaving. Big John confronts Surtee thinking he is not used to Apache ways but Surtee knows their customs and fought them in the Army until he was wounded by an arrow still in his back. He apologizes to Sandoval. When a fight between braves over a girl occurs, he again usurps Sandoval's rule. Sandoval wants to cut Chato's nose off for trying to steal her. Sandoval goes to Big John who smooths over the issue. The girl, Quintana, is assigned to Surtee by Sandoval to cook and clean. Surtee enlists the young Chato to raid cattle shipments from ranchers to the reservation. The skeptical Big John puts together a plan that ensnares Chato trying to steal another delivery of cattle. At the same time Surtee makes a pass at Quintana resulting in the tribe kicking him out. He rides to the stolen cattle where he is trapped by Big John' men and the tribe.
Episode 23

Sam is trying to break a bronc when a man named Orville Kilroy wanders into the ranch with a saddle looking to buy a horse. Blue tries to take advantage of him by selling him the bronc but the joke is on the men when Kilroy breaks the bronc. Buck knows Kilroy spent time in prison for robbery but decides to take him on as he is a good hand. Kilroy proves to be the guy everyone likes. He can handle a practical joke, teaches Blue to shoot, and provides Big John with a chess player who can beat Big John. However, Telford Burris and his two sons are on the trail of Kilroy. They finally reach Tucson where Kilroy along with Buck, Blue, and Manolito have come for supplies. Telford asks Buck in the saloon if he has seen Kilroy in the area. Buck says no but leaves to warn Kilroy but it is too late as a son has seen Kilroy. As the men come for Kilroy, Blue wants to help him but Buck realizing Kilroy is wanted says no. Kilroy confronts the men but when Telford threatens to kill Kilroy because he lost the money they robbed, Buck followed by Manolito stops him. Buck reluctantly turns the four men over to the sheriff while back home Big John ponders when Kilroy will be available to play chess.
Episode 24

Mrs. Annie Simmons and daughter Jennie arrive at the High Chaparral looking for Buck. They had a close relationship but became separated. Buck tried to find her but gave up. Her husband has left them. She knows he usually goes to a small town in a bad area near the ranch. She asks Buck to find her husband to see if he will come back. It is an emotional task for Buck who still loves her but he accepts it. She gives him her wedding ring to show why he is looking for her husband Jack. Buck finds the town and inquires about Jack. No one responds but thieves in the bar jump him that night for the ring. Jack intervenes to help Buck but refuses to return with Buck. He hates Buck as his wife always talked fondly of him making him feel second rate. He takes Buck's gun back to town where Buck can retrieve it. Buck does but also confronts Jack again resulting in a fight. Buck is forced to leave alone but is ambushed by the thieves who now want revenge along with the ring. It appears to be death for Buck the next day until Jack intervenes - again. He rides with the wounded Buck to the ranch and a reunion with his family.

As the Cannons prepare to receive Don Sebastian at the ranch, they receive word he is dying from a bullet wound. He was shot in a holdup and his lion head ring was stolen. They go to the Montoya ranch where Montoya asks Manolito to wed Anita de Santiago y Amistad and Big John to sign a document that would put his ranch under the same control as Montoya's and Anita's family ranch. Montoya is dying but when he falls out of bed, it dislodges the bullet allowing him to heal. Not wanting to lose the chance to control the three ranches, he continues the charade. Upon meeting Anita, Manolita is taken by her beauty but turned off by her demands. Meanwhile, locals catch a woodcutter who has the stolen ring who says he bought it from two men. Buck, Blue and Joe follow him to catch the men they believe are involved while Manolito returns to the hacienda only to catch his father out of bed and obviously recovering. He and Victoria decide two can play the game as they are angry with their father. Meanwhile, Buck, Blue and Joe learn the woodcutter has gone back to finish killing Montoya. As Manolito and Victoria play their own charade on Montoya, the woodcutter is captured at his bedroom door causing Montoya to rise out of bed to attack him and spoil his own plot.

Alberto Ruiz and son Carlos are fleeing a posse when Alberto's horse goes lame. He takes Carlos's horse with plans to meet Carlos in Tucson. Carlos is later found wandering in the desert by Victoria. Although he is unwilling to cooperate with the Cannons, Victoria wants to keep him at the ranch although Big John suggests sending him to the orphanage. Victoria thinks he should go to school and stay with a family in Tucson. They find him a family but there is no school teacher. Victoria decides to take the job for a month until a new teacher arrives. Carlos does well in school changing his feelings as he learns about the US. However, one boy in the school knows his background and continues to hound him about his dad hanging. Alberto does eventually find Carlos in Tucson wanting him to return to Mexico with him. However, Carlos wishes to stay and continue in school. Alberto decides to take him and kidnap Victoria for ransom. He sends Blue with a demand for $1000 but Blue decides to take on Alberto himself. Blue loses the fight but when Carlos tries to stop Alberto, Alberto tells Carlos to stay as he has changed too much.
