In the late 20th century, Derek and Margo are a duo of young archaeologists on a dig somewhere in the Middle East. They are accompanied by their nomadic friend and apparent guide Moki. The group is trapped in a sinking whirlpool of sand. They are somehow transported to a vast chamber which contains relics from an ancient civilization. They find within it a time portal with a strange inscription. Attempting to cross the gate, they are randomly transported to various events and eras depicted in the Bible. Sometimes the trio interact with principal figures of an event, but they are not allowed to make any changes to the course of history. In other cases, they arrive several decades after a specific event and they try to interview surviving witnesses on what they experienced.
