Episode 1

The First Impressions

Fri, Jul 11, 202554 mins

Alejandra and the judges meet the contestants, to who they outline the format for season 4, where each of the two competitions per week will count toward the path to the finale. Contestants will be eliminated periodically through the process, until the three finalists are announced for the final two competitions. For the first challenge, the judges want to see who the cooks are as people, and thus the cooks are given sixty minutes to prepare what they consider their signature dish. The judges get a little more specific for the second challenge where the cooks, again given sixty minutes, are to prepare a dish representative of the region of the country in which they reside. For that second challenge, the cooks will have one more person to impress, guest Al Roker.

Episode 2

Passing the Dish

Fri, Jul 18, 202554 mins

The eight contestants learn that the first two of them will be eliminated from the competition at the end of this week's two hour-long challenges, which focus on time with family and friends. As such, they are all determined to put their best foot forward for these two, especially in following up on the previous critiques provided to them by the judges. Some do take a risk in preparing dishes that generally take far longer than an hour to prepare, those risks as the real life situations behind the two challenges, especially the second, are known for their long preparation. The first is to prepare a dish that they would make in a time of support. Most turn to what are generally considered comfort foods. The second is to prepare what they would normally do for the holiday of their choice, served in the way that most holiday meals are, namely family styled.

The Bakes are High

Fri, Jul 25, 202554 mins

The cooks are relieved to learn that it is a non-elimination week, but are less thrilled with this week's theme of baking as most consider themselves cooks and not bakers. The first challenge, which they have seventy-five minutes to complete, is to prepare a dish centered on a bread made from scratch. Because of the relatively short time, most will choose a non-yeast quick bread of some sort. And the second challenge is the annual "bake sale", they needing to make a dozen baked goods. The one other item in the brief is that their baked goods need to have fruit as a major component. They have ninety minutes to complete the challenge.

Episode 4

A Test of the Best

Fri, Aug 1, 202554 mins

The theme this week at the halfway mark of the competition is adaptability. The first sixty minute challenge is the annual recipe swap, however the recipes that each of the cooks will be preparing are family tried and true classics of the judges, who assign the recipes to specific cooks to place them out of their comfort zone. The judges will be available to provide tips on what are mostly unfamiliar to the assigned cook. The cooks have the added pressure in that the judges will evaluate the dishes that they themselves have prepared and eaten time and time again. The second challenge, also with a sixty minute time-frame, is indeed the annual recipe swap, each cook who is randomly assigned a recipe submitted by one of their fellow cooks. Most of the cooks will be using ingredients they may not even have heard of before let alone use, and using preparation and cooking techniques they've never done before, but what panics them the most is not knowing what the final dish is supposed to look or taste like.

A Taste Down Memory Lane

Fri, Aug 8, 202554 mins

The six remaining home cooks are aware they only have two more challenges to impress the judges before they make the decision of which three will enter into next week's finale. While last week was all about adapting to the unfamiliar, this week is all about the tried and true. In the first sixty minute challenge, the cooks will each prepare a dish that exemplifies a family tradition. The judges will be as moved by the stories behind those traditions are they are with the food. In the second sixty minute challenge, the cooks will each prepare a dish from a recipe that has been handed down over their family's generations. After both challenges, the judges and Alexandra discuss each individual cook, their decision not only the three that have done the best in the ten challenges to date, but also who has shown growth as a cook over the five weeks.

The Grand Finale

Fri, Aug 15, 202554 mins

It's the season 4 finale, and the final three home cooks standing are Rex Alba, Coby Bailey and Waigal Safi, who are representing their Filipino, Cajun and Afghan cultures, respectively. They have two final cooks to impress the judges, after which the judges will make their decision of the winner. Each of the three home cooks receives a memory box from home which affects their first challenge. In each memory box is a recipe from home which they have sixty minutes to prepare, they able to put their own spin on the dish away from the basics of the recipe. Guest Jake Cohen is added to the judges' table for this first challenge. And the final challenge for which they have three hours, they are to prepare their Great American Recipe, which is to include an entree, a side dish, and a dessert. Because of the complexity of each meal, they are each provided a sous chef, a loved one from home. While each sous chef wants their loved one to win, each admits that he/she may not be the best person in one way or another to provide that needed assistance.
