Schooner Bay puts on its upcoming Seafarer Centennial (complete with Seafaring Day Games). Abruptly after Carolyn nominates Claymore for Grand Admiral of the celebration (due to his blood link to the Captain), Claymore, flattered, closes the meeting before anymore else can be nominated and chosen. Captain Gregg bristles at this choice but strikes back by using Candice and Jonathan to get Claymore to donate the Seafaring Day Games prize from items he pilfered from Gull Cottage over the years. Ignorant of its antique and historical value, Claymore donates a dirty old tea set. The Captain, having missed the set for years, wants it back by Claymore winning all the games. They want to give him a birthday party, so they try to find the date by visiting Claymore under the pretense of a school interview. Gregg airs out the house, the fire department arrives, whereby its over-strained engine catches fire, leaving Carolyn to put it out with a garden hose. The town needs an updated fire engine, but there's a lot of sentimentality attached to "Old 17." Carolyn arranges for the bumbling county commissioner to come test the fire department and condemn its engine, which Claymore points out only has to pass the town's outdated fire code. The Captain steps in to see that they can't even do that; but, thanks to Scruffy, a real emergency appears in which the Captain can't assist without confirming his presence before all onlookers.
