A truck gets stuck in the river and Emma is asked to pull it out. She tries together with Paula, but the truck is too heavy and Emma gets stuck underneath. While the water is rising, Geoff has to make a difficult decision; amputate Emma's arm or wait for another truck to pull Emma out.

Not the Malarvys

The rowdy Malarvy family create havoc in the Crossing when they arrive with their eight children. When their daughter Rosie is admitted to hospital suffering from pneumonia, she falls for David and a major misunderstanding ensures, she thinks he wants to marry her. Things are exacerbated by her parents' approval of the match and David has great difficulty in quashing the misapprehension.

The Adventure

Geoff and Kate take drastic steps to have a wedding of their choosing but when they elope, things don't go quite to plan. Meanwhile, Paula goes on safari with a group of photographers in the outback. However, Luke is dubious about their motivations and decides to follow them.

David finds himself very much an outsider when he and Chris conduct a three-day clinic at a remote homestead where men appear to be most unwelcome. Rising Sundown

When two Japanese entrepreneurs place a bid on Essie Harrington's house in an auction, racial tensions and old wounds are re-opened. Essie Harrington, unable to cope with the memory of her husband's death in World War II by the Japanese, collapses. The locals are none too impressed and when someone sabotages the Nomad the Japanese businessmen fly in, events take a turn for the worse.

Man and Boy

Kate and David come into conflict when a boy, Ricky, is hit by lighting. Although Sam manages to get the Nomad to the scene of the incident, he nor they are able to return to the Crossing because of the ferocity of the storm. Kate argues that euthanasia is the answer as Ricky is in so much pain; however David stands by his Hippocratic Oath and is determined to save him.

The Longing

Geoff and Kate are forced to have a bizarre wedding ceremony when events conspire against them. Pregnant Sheena and her husband Joe end up on an Aboriginal camp when he is fired for not being attentive enough on the McKinley property. Later when Geoff and David arrive, they find that Sheena is about to give birth, but complications soon arrive and Geoff is in danger of missing his own 'big day'.

Fear and repulsion rip through the Crossing when Father Jacko is diagnosed with leprosy. Sam is particularly concerned, as Father Jacko has recently baptised a relative of his. Unable to cope with being an abhorred figure, Father Jacko leaves. Can Geoff and Sam track him down and persuade him to return?

Jack is called in to investigate the attempted murder of a stranger. All the evidence seems to point to Luke Mitchell, and Jack uncovers some disturbing facts when he delves into Luke's past.

A full-scale emergency ensues as the rescue team battles against the elements to save the girl's life.
