However, when he sees that the studios need a male Dino to share the lead in the show, Fred brings Dino for a "try-out" at the studio. However, if Hollyrock seems promising to Fred money wise, he noticed that it has its hard sides, at the cost of maybe losing Dino.

Fred's New Boss

Barney has a severe aching tooth that needs to be extracted. But Fred wants to avoid the dental bill by trying to pull the tooth loose himself. Then, Fred took Barney to a veterinarian office for ill pets (like Dino). Just as the veterinarian starts to inject gas into Barney, he is interrupted leaving Barney alone. Barney falls into a deep sleep from the additional gas and became airborne. Fortunately, Fred saw Barney float by and away. Fred quickly found Barney outside and floating in the air. After Fred lassos Barney and pulls him to the ground. Fred's quick jerk also removed Barney's aching tooth. With the additional gas inside Barney & knowing how long the gas will last, they get to see the boxing match & free of charge. Fred ties two ropes on to Barney, one at his feet and one at his shoulders, making Barney Rubble a temporary "Stone-Age hot-air blimp".

Fred's New Job

With a baby on the way, Fred needs a raise in his salary, but Mr. Slate can see it coming and is determined not to give one. First, when Fred waits outside his office for him, Slate's son plays an employee asking for a raise and getting fired, only to agree to come back to work for him with a pay cut. This initially dissuades Fred, so he comes up with an idea of having Barney pose as a millionaire who wants to hire Fred away as a way to get a counteroffer from Slate. Instead, Slate tells Barney, "You can have him." and fires Fred. Now Fred is out job hunting. First, he gets a job as a short order cook at a drive-in, which doesn't seem so bad at first until workers at a nearby job site let out for lunch all at once. Suddenly, the workload is too much for him and he runs screaming from the place. His second job as a gas station attendant ends quickly when he forgets to get payment from his first (and last) customer. His next job sees him get dressed up in a bird costume and is able to actually fly. Slate sees him, and realizing how desperate he is to provide for his new family, has a change of heart and woos him back to the quarry with the pay bump he was looking for.
