Pilot

Barry Allen, a forensic crime scene assistant for Central City Police Department, is struck by lightning during a storm affected by the particle accelerator from S.T.A.R. Labs when it explodes. Comatose for nine months, Barry awakens in S.T.A.R. Labs, having been placed in the care of his scientist idol, Dr. Harrison Wells, along with his assistants Dr. Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon. Barry quickly learns that he can move at extraordinary speeds and that there were other "metahumans" created from the explosion. One of them, Clyde Mardon, is robbing banks with his ability to control the weather. In order to stop Clyde, Barry is outfitted with a suit that can withstand his high speed movements. He tracks down Mardon and, with the help of Detective West (who learns of Barry's abilities), Barry is able to stop Mardon. With his new powers, Barry vows to find out who killed his mother when he was a child, believing him to be another metahuman who has similar abilities of speed as he. Elsewhere, in a secret room at S.T.A.R Labs, Wells reveals he is not paraplegic, while reading a newspaper from the future concerning Barry's fate as the Flash.

Barry escorts Iris to a university gathering honoring scientist Simon Stagg. When six gunmen storm the event, Barry changes into The Flash and tries to stop them. While he does save a man's life, he passes out before he can capture the robbers, which frustrates him. As Dr. Wells, Caitlin and Cisco scramble to find out what's wrong with Barry, Joe comes down hard on Barry for taking the law into his own hands and risking his life. Barry realizes that it wasn't six gunmen but a metahuman named Danton Black, who can make multiples of himself. Meanwhile, Iris becomes even more intrigued by the "red streak."

As Barry and the team at S.T.A.R. Labs work to capture Kyle Nimbus, a.k.a. The Mist (a dangerous new meta-human with toxic gas powers), they revisit the painful night the particle accelerator exploded and killed Caitlin's fiancé, Ronnie. Meanwhile, Joe decides to finally visit Henry in jail after all these years, but things take a dangerous turn when Kyle shows up looking to punish Joe for arresting him years ago. Meanwhile, Iris and Eddie continue to hide their relationship from Joe.

The Flash stops a robbery but the culprits get away after shooting a guard, and The Flash chooses to save the man instead of following the criminals. Joe shows Barry a book of suspects and Barry identifies Leonard Snart as the leader of the group. Snart revises his plan to steal the Kahndaq Dynasty Diamond and gets a boost when he gets his hands on a stolen "cold gun," which could kill The Flash. Dr. Wells is furious when he finds out that Cisco built the cold gun without telling anyone and now it's missing. Meanwhile, Iris is getting the silent treatment from Joe because of her relationship with Eddie.

Plastique

After a bomb goes off downtown, the army, led by General Eiling, rolls in and takes over the case, much to Joe's surprise. Suspicious, Joe tells Barry that he and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs should look into the army's involvement. Wells informs the team that Eiling was experimenting on his men to turn them into super soldiers. Cisco confirms one of Eiling's soldiers, Bette Sans Souci, was at the bomb site. The Flash tracks her down and realizes that she's not setting off the bombs, she is a meta-human who can blow things up just by touching them. Meanwhile, when Joe learns Iris is writing about "the streak," he tells Barry to make her stop. Barry realizes Iris won't listen to him so he decides to have The Flash pay her a visit.

The Flash Is Born

The Flash faces Tony, a new meta-human who can turn himself into girded steel at will. While Dr. Wells and Caitlin worry for Barry's safety, Cisco comes up with a plan to take Tony down. Meanwhile, Iris's blog on The Flash gets her into trouble, and Eddie, witnessing Tony's abilities firsthand, begins to ask questions that Joe doesn't want answered. Joe asks Dr. Wells to help him solve Nora Allen's murder.

Power Outage

The Flash goes up against Farooq, aka Blackout, a meta-human who can harness electricity. During their battle, Farooq zaps The Flash and siphons all his electricity, leaving The Flash without his speed. Dr. Wells, Caitlin and Cisco work to reverse the effects on Barry, but their efforts are disrupted when Farooq comes banging on S.T.A.R. Labs doors in search of Wells, whom he blames for his accident. Without Barry's powers to protect them, the group must figure out a way to save themselves from the meta-human. Meanwhile, Tockman manages a coup inside the Central City police department and takes several people hostage, including Joe and Iris. While Iris is sure The Flash will save them, Eddie has a trick up his ... leg.

Flash vs. Arrow

A quest for information on Capt. Boomerang brings Oliver "The Arrow" Queen (and team) to Central City, exciting Barry at the prospect of teams Arrow and Flash merging. Pressured into the merger, Oliver begins giving Barry lessons (rather painful lessons meant to point out Barry's flawed approach to criminals). Shaken by the first lesson, Barry becomes even more reckless in the apprehension of Prism, a meta-human who can bring anyone's buried anger explosively to the surface. The Flash gets whammied and, unable to shake off Prism's influence (as do others), goes after the two people he suddenly, uncontrollably hates most: love-rival Officer Thawne and hero-rival The Arrow.

The Man in the Yellow Suit

While enjoying holiday traditions with friends and family, sudden news from Iris and Eddie startles Barry. Also, another visit from Barry's arch nemesis (the man who murdered his mother) has everyone starting to realize who they're up against. While much is learned about The Man in the Yellow Suit, a former Star Labs employee also appears, one well-known to the group of friends.

Captain Cold is back with the cold gun and his old pal Heat Wave and put a plan in motion to kill The Flash and make him reveal to the world that he is real.

Tests reveal that, under stress from this duality, Ronnie's body will go nuclear unless he's put down or a way is found to safely split them apart in under two hours.

Receiving word and breaking his impromptu double-date with Linda, Iris and Eddie (where Iris and Barry's close behavior equally disturbs their dates), Barry freakishly sees himself running beside him en route to the crime scene at superspeed. Joe, knowing the impossibility of protection against meta-humans, works the case but is captured and used to lure Iris to the beach. Meanwhile, as Police Captain Singh winds up hospitalize in trying to protect Joe, Cisco pays dearly for pursuing his suspicions against Harrison. Back at the beach, Iris finally learns the identity of The Flash as Barry tries to thwart Mark's tsunami, hurtling toward the city, and winds up meeting himself en route to the coroner's office instead.

Rogue Time

After going to the past, Barry talks to Harrison Wells about him time-traveling and the consequences of changing the timeline. Barry puts Mark Mardon in the cell at STAR Labs knowing about the consequences. Barry talks to Linda and they break up. Barry talks to Iris about his feelings and her feelings and Iris says that she doesn't feel the same way as Barry does. Captain Cold, Heat Wave and Cold's little sister Lisa kidnap Cisco and his brother to get back the guns and the secret identity of the Flash. Barry gets punched in the face by Eddie because Iris told him that Barry wanted to have her leave Eddie. Iris's friend at work, who has a bunch of conspiracies about Harrison Wells, gets killed by the Reverse-Flash, and all of his evidence gets taken away. When Barry asks Harrison Wells about Simon Stagg, the TV shows that Iris's friend has gone missing. Barry calls Joe and tells him he believes everything Joe said was true.

Tricksters

A copy-cat-killer who goes by the name The Trickster starts setting off bombs in Central City. In order to stop the villain, Barry and Joe meet with the original Trickster, a criminal mastermind named James Jesse, who has been imprisoned for twenty years. Things quickly go from bad to worse when the Tricksters unite and take Henry Allen prisoner. Meanwhile, Iris asks Eddie to investigate a missing person, and flashbacks show how Harrison Wells came up with the name for S.T.A.R. Labs.

Meanwhile, back in Central City, Barry races to catch a meta-human named Hannibal Bates who can transform himself into every person he touches - which includes Eddie, Iris, Caitlin and even The Flash.

The Trap

After discovering Dr. Wells' Time Vault (where Barry, Caitlin and Cisco meet Gideon), the group decides to tap into Cisco's dream state, wherein lies information from the alternate timeline. There Cisco hears Dr. Wells admit to killing Nora Allen. To get Henry Allen out of prison, they all need to hear that admission and decide to recreate conditions from the other timeline to get Wells to confess, which puts Cisco directly in harm's way. Meanwhile, Eddie makes a request of Joe, which Joe unexpectedly and flatly refuses.

Grodd Lives

Barry must deal with Reverse Flash's latest threat to a member of the group. To make matters worse, Dr. Wells unleashes Grodd on the city to distract Barry and the team. Joe, Barry, and Cisco head down into the sewers to catch Grodd. Barry and Iris have a heart to heart talk.

As Wells once again gets the upper hand on the S.T.A.R. Labs team, Barry realizes he needs to make a big move and reaches out to an old foe, Captain Cold, for help. Joe and Caitlin warn Barry that Cold can't be trusted. True to form, Cold has his own agenda that involves the meta-humans trapped in the containment cells. As things seem to be going from bad to worse, The Flash gets reinforcements - Arrow and Firestorm.

Fast Enough

Now incarcerated, Dr. Wells (Eobard Thawne) proposes a plan: use the awakened Particle Accelerator to create a stable worm hole that'll grant Barry and himself each their deepest desires, respectively a living mother and a 22nd century return trip home. The risks are great. Tampering with time will cause permanent and unpredictable changes, let alone a chance at mistakenly spawning a black hole on Earth. In the meantime, Wells suspects that Cisco might be a meta-human, and Eddie (apprised of his rather unique, coincidental position) fulfills a personal wish.
